Harley Davidson stolen at traffic lights

A Harley Davidson motorcycle has been stolen from a Sydney man in broad daylight after he stopped at traffic lights, police say.

The victim came to a stop at Prestons, in the city's southwest, about 3.30pm (AEDT) on Sunday, when he felt something pressed into his back.

An unknown person threatened him and told him to get off before the offender drove off with the motorcycle.

The owner walked a short distance and contacted police.

He was not injured during the incident.

The motorbike has been described as a 1994 Springer Harley Davidson and was purple in colour.

Anyone who may have witnessed the incident, or who may recognise the Harley Davidson, is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

It's getting a bit rough when you can't even go for a ride in case someone steals your bike.

Time to start thinking about a bit of tracking technology or remote shut-down technology maybe.

If this happens to anyone with a later model that has an alarm and fob a good idea would be to turn off the bike
and then run off as to alarm the bike. "maybe"

ah, hell in theory, I'd like to do something crazy, in reality, they can have it. It's insured, but I might just check that the policy covers this...

I would hand the bike over and let the insurance company deal with it.

Just as you are about to get off the bike, stall it, and if your bike is one with the imobilizer, walk away. At least the arsehole won't be able to ride it away.

It wouldn't be hard to do. A simple timer circuit and a relay, the practical issues are how/where to mount it and make it waterproof etc.

Besides, there is an unknown quantity in the threat.

Yes, one arsole sticking some hard object in your back (gun, maybe - maybe not but likely hood YES).

Then there is the unknown quantity of other arseoles who are more than likely in a car very nearby who may or may not be armed.

Additionally, they can use their car as a weapon and run over the bike owner.

Just some things to think about before engaging the enemy.

    Just sayin........................

Hey Dicko, The Scorpio alarm system has a panic/immobiliser feature for just such a thing (it has a remote display pager). It also has an optional proximity sensor which alerts the pager. They take a bit of time to install and aren't particularly cheap but are a good system with good features.

Note: I don't sell them or have anything to do with them apart from having one on my bike.

I've been talking to Navman Wireless about fitting a tracker to my Nightie. Working on the same technology as find my iphone. Fucker takes my bike at the lights....sure take it and within seconds I'll know where it is on my iphone. The technolgy already exists....prob cheaper than the excess....

Dont presume this sort of thing only happens at city traffic lights......it has happened on country roads.

I've had people attack me with cars.

Same type of thing, remember doing 140 up the Pacific highway on the  curb after a car tried to take me out.

Same thing here, i'd just gun it, fuk them.
