Hi, my iron has been lowered to 11 inch with heavy duty springs (progressive 430's) will I have any issues with a 17/18 x 3.5 rear 21 x 2.15 front?
Any thoughts much appreciated.
Not sure about the rear, it will depend on the tyre you purchase................with regard to the front, you will not be able to use the guard because the mounts on the actual front fender are lower to accommodate the 19' rim. Theoretically, there is no reason why the rear wont fit, get out a tape measure and work out the type of tyre and width of the tyre wall. This will give you the best indication, I would hazard a guess that on an 18' rear you will be running a lower profile tyre anyway, this should balance out! If you're going to go the 18', stick a 18 x 4.25 on the rear, bolts straight up with no fuss! I looked into doing it myself, can send you the info if you like and the details of a tyre that should fit!
Hey Clem, this is the info I got from a bloke on the XLForum website: 'I had a independent bike shop in Florida but the new rim on the bike. But all that was needed was the new rim I got off ebay that said it was for a sportster, bearing and all. I had the 160 60 18 Metezeler mounted ti the rim so the speedo is almost dead on. The shop told me they had to replace the bolts that hold the sprocket on the rim and a new spacer to align the rim because a fitment issue. All in all they said it was simple consider I was just a walk in. it cost me about $262 for the rim (discounted), $300 for the tire plus mounting and balancing. Not to bad. Its been over a year with the new setup, no issues other than my metezeler is almost worn out from riding to much!!!'
Im keen for a ride, was actually thinking about putting a thread up again and seeing if we can get a few blokes together on the sporties, maybe go for a ride down to Bowral, get a lunch @ the Imperial and head back to Sydney. Its not too far and they doing a cracking lunch!! Will keep you posted!
