Have a few scratches on my SE matt black slip-ons and the buck shot covers. I would like to re-paint them with the high temp VHT matt black exhaust paint.

They look to be painted not powder coated. I want to re paint my matt black heat shields also. Has anyone done this?

I'd do a little investigation to work out what the HD have used to get them like that, my understanding is that powder coat will start to flake @ a particular temperature because of the method used to bake it on (dont quote me on that). Exhaust paint would work, but not sure about longevity.

Spend sometime researching it on the net, you wont be alone with the issue and I am sure someone out there has a workable solution

Mate, don't take this the wrong way, but it's bike, ride it, enjoy it. The get scratched, they fade, it's part of the deal. If you want a show bike, then buy one and trailer the bastard, if you want to keep spending money making it new, then that is your choice, but for a few scratches? I'm sorry, but in my opinion there are two types of bikes, those that are ridden and cop a heap of wear and tear and those that get trailered and will always be pristine. Sorry if I sound cynical and I wish you luck in getting the result you want, I just suggest that you don't spend to much time and effort achieving something that will last twenty minutes.

Sorry, I feel like a grumpy old bastard today, and it is your bike to do with what you wish, like mine is mine, my suggestion would only to be, don't patch, strip the whole lot and replace with paint of your choice. It's a small area, and patching never works, spend the extra couple of dollars strip it and replace with the paint of your choice.

Thanks for the input guys. Fizball, they know their stuff but I want to keep my SE's.

Ross, it is not a trailer queen and I know that. 16,500kms in 13 months shows that me thinks ;) I ride it in everything and everywhere (Adelaide in April)

And in that time, only a small scratch on the tank near my fuel cap from my sleeve zip, (and a fixed scratch from some cunt that keyed my rear fender)

I didnt want to say it but I will. I actually dropped her for the first time the other day as I took off, with the fucking steering lock on. Sooooo pissed off after being so carful fro over a year..

My right leg saved the bike which was on top of me, managed to push her back up with only 1-2'' scratches to the bottoms of both mufflers, the front heat sheild slightly scratched and the brake pedal edge scratched. I have fixed the pedal scratch already with some Humbrol hobby paint and have touched up the mufflers. But yes I will be taking both mufflers and both heat shields and spraying them all for paint uniformity. I think ill give the vht a crack and bake it on in the oven as directed

Shotgunhemi, as I said, sorry, I was in a grumpy mood, I understand why you want to fix it. Understand the drop as well, one of my bikes was dropped moving it from the garage to the shed, only time the thing ever fell over in the whole time I owned it, and I kicked myself for it.
Hope you get the finish your after.

Have you tried the old style black stove polish to make them look better newer etc?
