Hi all, wanting to drop the ass end of my '09 Nightster, few questions on shock choice please. Progressive 440 11", Licks 2G 10", or Burly Slammers?  I know the lower I go the harder the ride and less travel/clearance issues with pipe, stand, etc...  but just wanted to know from those of you who have experience with any of the above please? Good/bad points with any of them?

    Thanks.

I've got progressive 11" on my sporty they are great.  haven't tried the others.  I went to a 1" shorter stand but it wasn't neccessary, I needed to fix the saggy spring on my stand which it did.  I had to harden the progressives up quite a bit as i found they bottomed out on bumps but I think you'll have the same issue on any 11" shock you go to.

I put on 11 1/2" 440s' and as chops said you'll have to set the pre load pretty firm. Tried 11" heavy duty 440s' but found that they are to hard. Live and learn, bit expensive thou!!

I've got the 11' two up HD heavy duty springs and have struggled to get them to the right place where I'm comfortable and the ass end doesnt skip or bounce around corners!

Thanks guys, I'm only a lightweight at 53kg's so doubt i'll be bottoming it out anytime soon, if anything a hard ride might be the problem! Will definitely have to adjust settings from standard whatever I get....

Got the 10.5in Burly Slammers on mine Fleabags after trying some Ultima 11.5's. I'm 130kg and with the settings adjusted i rarely bottom out, main issue is scraping on corners. Had the missus on the back recently and aside from bottoming out in a deep pot hole and both us becoming air born it was an otherwise decent ride down some pretty ordinary goat tracks. The is on a Dyna though.

Fleabags, I get down to 53kg in summer, and on my iron i have 11" ikon shocks on rear and ikon progressives on front, i get both feet on the ground and its even better with a la pera barebones seat. With the shocks adjusted correctly its a dam nice ride and dosnt bottom out, when i put the miss;s on the back i just turn up the rear preload a notch and its fine.

yeah, 11's about the lowest i'd go and still be able to have fun in corners. Maybe go them, and some lowering blocks, so you can drop it for looks, then crank it back up when the desire for cornering becomes too much

to get the look of 10" shocks, without being stuck with them when you realise there's more suspension in your kidneys than on the bike.
