might be a dumb question, but when bike is on bike lift with front wheel clear off the ground should there be any pressure from fork springs on the bolt on top of forks,i thought there should be some but there is none on mine,

Sounds like someone left the preload spaces out. I take it you brought the bike second hand from a short ass rider. There's a formula on fork preload with how far the forks sag. Google should help.

It's not a hard fix mate. PVC pipe can be used for spacers on most forks. A washer on top of each spring with the PVC pipe cut to 1 1/2 to 2 inch lengths. It takes some pushing down to get the fork cap thread started and then drop the bike down and measure how much the forks sag. Pull the caps again and shorten or cut a couple longer. The handling will improve 100%.

hi the preload on most forks is about 3/4' to 1'' , when the bike  weight is on the forks  it should have 3/4' sag  only, i would check  or better still change the fork oil  the early 35 & 39 m.m. fork's like 30 W oil

    Daddyracer for a laugh.
Next time your talking to frasers mechanics ask them about the preload tubes on the 06 later dyna's forks. There just as long as the springs. I was scratching my head after stripping the 49mm forks for Ikon springs.

i use race teck brand  fork springs  single rate,  as the dual rate  or progresive type are 2 soft on the fine windings, dual rate would  more than not have a longer preload spacer , late 49 m.m. type stock spring's are  shit,  2 soft with 2 many fine windings on the dual rate stock spring  set up for crusing along on the speedlimit on smooth roads,  you buy a late model bike & then you spend
