Aloha again.  Been away a while.

Bought a damaged 2007 883 Custom.  The fuel injection throttle body is destroyed.  I would like to retain the current crank triggered ignition system, but replace the fuel injection with a carburetor and manifold which I have in my bin.

i suspect I'll run into some problems since the ECU likely needs input from the throttle position sensor to adjust timing.  Any thoughts?

That's a great post, I wouldn't have thought it could be done that easily.  Still a good EFI system that works properly is better than a carb in my opinion.

I do like the EFI systems. BUT. There are very few parts in a carb which can fail and have the carb stop working. I have only had one experience with a bike that quit running because of the carb. Was riding my '63 Triumph and the top of the monobloc carb unscrewed. Fix entailed coasting over to the curb and screwing the top back in place.
There are any number of electric and electronic gizmos which can stop an EFI equipped bike.
Plus, tuning a carb takes a small handful of relatively cheap parts to get it to run the way you want it to.
The new stock throttle body is less than 350 USD, so maybe that's the way I'll go. I want to get this thing finished and sold.
