Got a 2009 Road King, at idle it has a rattle that gets worse as it warms up. seems to go away once on the move but it could be the case that the wind and exhaust noise cover it up. This rattle sometimes sounds like a dry bearing about to seize. Thre is no loss in power but I get funny looks when I pull up a the lights, not that I'm riding it now but coming back from Batemans Bay it got louder. Have taken off the primary cover alls OK. Hard to pin point where exactly the noise is coming from. Anyone had similiar issues?
The rattle is at no specific speed, rev it up and it just rattles along at the same pace as when idling. This is comforting in a way but annoying. I'm about to go over the exhaust and check all fittings.
Thanks Ray, hope you're right, good excuse to get a new exhaust system. Getting too hot now I'll check it out later.
try raising the back wheel off the ground and spin it - if it makes a grinding noise then its possibly within the primary or tranny
Thanks for all your comments and recommendations. Blacktown Harley, where I bought the bike, had a look and eventually came to the conclusion that the roller bearing for the cam are f^%^$%d and because of that the cams are F&%^%$d and it will cost about $1500 - $2000 to fix. Harley Aust will not have a bar of it because it is listed as a race tuned engine. I got a 103 with a stage 4 set up doen to it before I picked it up, the up grade wasfor more grunt not to race. Bit disappointed with HD response seeing I have only done 27K, 2 months over the warranty period. The previous bike I did 100K no problem, the V Rod still going strong but this Screaming Eagle is screamin. I'm starting to wonder if there is a Victory Forum.
Thanks , I'll try that. As usual looks like you need to go straihgt to the top and don't beat around with the fodder.
ALLS GOOD, bad rattle was only the cam roller bearings shitting themselves in the front cylinder. bearings disintegrated after wearing away the case harding on the cam. Around $1800 worth to repair, new bearings and cam shaft. Blacktown Harley came to the party with the parts, all I had to pay for was the labour. Alls nice and quiet till just today, now the primary is making hell of a noise in idle while clutch is out in neutral and while in gear and engauged. One thing after the other. Anyone want to buy a 103 stage 4 Road King with heaps of extras?
