I got stickered for my apes and exhaust on Friday night. I took bike over pits today and failed as apes too high, ( 16's). Long shots measured 94 Db. Does anyone know what the limit is, as I wasn't told. Either pull baffles and repack or put on the stock ones for revisit.

The Following Guidelines are to explain the various reqirements if you alter your motorcycle from its original specifications

On motorcycles manufactured before 1 July 1988

    a) The handlebar must have the same shape and be of same length on either side of the front wheel and steering head assembly.

    b) The distance between the extreme ends of the handlebar must not be less than 550mm.

    c) The highest point on the handle bar must not be more than 380mm above the top of steering yoke.

    d) Where the highest point of the handle bar is more than 205mm vertically above the top of steering yoke, the distance between the extreme ends of the handle bar must not be less than 660mm.

On motorcycles manufactured after 30 June 1988

    a) The handlebar must have the same shape and be of same length on either side of the front wheel and steering head assembly.

    b) The distance between the extreme ends of the handle bar must not be less than 500mm and not more than 900mm.

    c) The height of the lowest part of the handgrip must not be more than 380mm above the lowest
part of the upper surface of the rider’s seat

    d) The horizontal distance between midpoint of the steering yoke bearing and a point vertically
above the centre of the front wheel must not exceed 550mm.

Exhaust noise from vehicles should not exceed the prescribed noise levels referred to in clause 4 of the Regulation. The levels depend on whether the vehicle is certified to Australian Design Rule (ADR) 83/00 (which came into force progressively from 2005), or to earlier ADRs.
For vehicles certified prior to ADR 83/00, Schedule 1 of the Regulation specifies the prescribed noise levels. For cars built before January 1983, the maximum noise level is 96 decibels and for newer cars the level is 90 decibels. For motorcycles built on or after 1 March 1984, and designed or manufactured for use on a road, the level is 94 decibels. The noise level for other motorcycles is 100 decibels.
For vehicles certified to ADR 83/00 and with compliance plate dates of 1 March 2010 or earlier, the prescribed noise level is the higher of the level in Schedule 1 or the ADR 83/00 signature level plus 5 decibels. For vehicles with compliance plate dates after 1 March 2010, the prescribed noise level is the ADR 83/00 signature level plus 5 decibels.
ADR83/00 signature levels can be found on the federal Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government's website at When the prescribed noise limits are exceeded, authorised officers from DECC can issue penalty notices for offences. There is a tiered scale for fines - the louder the exhaust noise from vehicles, the greater the penalty.

I have orginal 10 apes which will pass, I will make connection to fit wiring so next time it will only take 30 mins to switch over. If I understand the comments aove, then my 94 Db is a pass. I will ride down again and get them to show me where it states 94D is too loud.

By those regs as stated, my stock street bob bars would be illegal. Fuck dealing with that shit.

Also, if you needed to quiet your exhaust down, head to any bike place that sells dirtbike gear and ask for baffle matting. It should be around $15 or so and will allow you to wrap your stock baffles and take the noise levels down. Short of taking your baffles out and having a 'cone' added to the top of the baffle, the matting is the best interim option.
