Legend Air Shocks

I know i've posted this up in the workshop, but i'll do a little review on these suckers. I was looking at the Shotgun shocks, but was told the "Legend" shocks where superior to the Shotgun. Instalation was pretty straight forward (once we got the rear bolts undone). As Robo posted, i too have know idea how to set these up for 2up. I got Mutha on the back and we pumped the shocks up, no good, we dumped the air out, no good. I went on my own for a squirt, it was ok once i had found it needed to be above the standard height. Today i rode down to Scars place. I dumped the air out, pumped it back up until the bike stopped rising, Scar sat on it, i got on the back, and here we where bouncing up and down on the bike in his back yard like a pair of clowns. Scars' missus was watching us out the kitchen window, i would've loved to have known what was going through her mind. Anyway, i pumped more air into it, the bike sort of rebounded back up when i stood above the bike. Not a lot of spring as i sat down. I jump up and the bike would, i don't know how to explain it, sort of rebounded with a jerk. (not me). I rode it home at this setting, it handled fine, i gave it a workout on the way home. Got Mutha to sit on the bike with me in the shed, and it just seems to be for to soft 2up. My ranking on these shocks,

Ease of instalation 7/10, we didn't get all the parts and the switch wouldn't fit my bars.

    Ride 2 up 0/10

Ride solo 6/10 compared to the stock shocks which where absolutley shot.

Price 2/10, the concept is awesome, and they are constructed great, as is the compressor, but they just ain't suited for our crappy roads here.

Overall i think the shocks would be ideal for a show bike that was gunna be trucked around to shows. I wasn't looking for a shock that had the convenience of lowering and raising, i really needed one that could carry a load comfortably. The advertising gave the impression these shocks WOULD carry a load, but i can vouch "THE SHOCKS I HAVE WON'T". Maybe, i got a lemon set. Don't know, i would not recomend these shocks for a softail that is ridden on country roads. I would love to hear from someone who has a set of the Legend shocks, just to compare

I e-mailed the Legend mob in the States last night. I recieved a response this morning. Thore was the guy who responded, and he suggested i pump more air into them. I'm going to try this when i get home. The Legend shocks are all tested to 300psi before they leave the factory. They are tested to 800psi before they explode. I'm gunna juice 'em up and see how i go. I do think an air gauge would be a wise investment. I'll run it by Paula when i think it's safe to do so.

Nah Robo, they never mentioned max' or mins'. Yesterday i did pump them up passed the lift stage, and yes it was firm, but in saying that, i did give it a gut full going home, and i'll be honest, it handled really well. I don't usually ride it like i rode home yesterday form Scars place, i'm usually just a cruiser, but, i was quietly impressed with the ride home. The roads around here are not much chop, and at 150k plus, it gets a bit rough. But i thought they handled it really well. I got home, got wife to sit on it (the bike)with me at that setting, with the both of us on it it was still soft. If i pump it up harder, it's going to be far to hard for solo i reckon. Fournales, i don't want to say it yet, not to Paula anyway, not just yet. We'll see what happens when i get home today and keep mucking about with it. I will be adding an oil filled air gauge at some stage (if they stay on the bike). I don't know where to get one of them.

Will be following this thread closely as I am wanting to change my shocks to air soon. Was leaning towards Shotguns, but nobody seems happy with what they got!!!!

Been reading as much as i can about the Shotgun's on US sites & am yet to find anyone that has been disapointed with them. Could it be that our out of city roads are more harsh or what?
Would like to hear from anyone on this forum that has them fitted & what there opinion is of them?

    +1
when I lived in the states [New Mexico and Texas] I was impressed by the quality of the highways. Endless miles and miles of perfectly smooth concrete [not bitumen]. And that was back in the '90s.

Of course, there's plenty of back roads off the main highways that are just like ours.
But I never saw any corrugation like you see out west QLD or in the NT when I was in the states.

The main thing is, the state of our main highway [at least, BNE to Mackay, that's the bit I've been riding most recently] is mostly only equivalent to a back road over there.

Steve, the shocks are off the bike mate. I couldn't set them up. They're just not suited for big blokes. There's a video on u-tube for the Legend shocks, showing to beefy blokes on a bike, BUT, they are just sitting on it, not actually riding the thing. They would be ideal for a rider no more than 100kgs, then, when they load it up, (with pillion or gear) they could pump 'em up. With me, as you know, i'm heavy to start with, so i had to pump 'em up. But, it still wasn't a comfy ride. I bought Steamers old stock shocks off him, as my stockers where absolutley shot. I'm putting them on today. As i said, the Legend shocks would be ideal for a lighter rider and pillion. Not a bloke of my calibre. Shame, as they ain't cheap. If you want to try 'em out Steve, you are most welcome to, they're not hard to fit, and the electrics are straight forward. I have 2 switch blocks, one for 1inch bars and the other for inch and a quarter bars. Scar and i fitted a 2way switch to mine as i didn't want the switch mounted on the bars. Anyway, they are on the market and they are sitting in a box on my shelf in the garage. You can check 'em out if you want to mate.
