If I had the money I spent on cars, boats, bikes and piss, I would definately be retired now!! In fact probably 10 years ago. But hey, I've enjoyed every dollar I've spent!

    Go for it!

For me, its a like a hobby! I spend a shit load on the bike, knowing I will never make the money back - but I don't give a fuck!! Some people like to jump on a plane and spend money overseas holidays - They will never get that money back either. Fuckit - Spend it while you are breathing I say!!!

    More than I should have,

     - but not as much as I'm gonna.

I don't plan on living for ever and have waited a LONG time for the Black Beastie.

A lifetime of being responsible and still with six figures of never to be paid off debt - who cares.

My bike was purchased a keeper - if I wanted an investment I would have bought ostrich eggs.

There's a lot of wise words here Macka. In a past life, I was in the finance game and I am wary of anyone spending more than they can afford - and make no mistake, motorcycling is an addiction.

I have always worked on the principle that if you get the lines of your bike right, it will look good without the bling. Of course this is a personal choice however with a good selection of parts you can get a unique and changeable look to your bike without spending a fortune.

I bought a second hand springer and then a seat, sissy bar, pipes, 2 sets of bars, carby and air cleaner. Below is what can be done :

Lots of good advise here, I'm all for spending what you are comfotable with, if its a hobby them the money side doesn't matter.

Yeah....spend up...enjoy it whilst you can. You're a long time dead!
    Just for interests sake.
Before I bought the 09 Muscle....I was looking at 2 Vrods.
One the guy had spent 50K on....he sold it to a guy down the road from him in LA for $11,250.00 (I was in the process of negotiating with him when he sold it. It was a legit bike as I had an LAPD buddy check it and HIS background).
The second...the guy spent $60K on it....and it sold for $7000.00.
That's CRAZY money....but they were NICE looking bikes.

I'm not entirely sure what my Iron owe's me but I know for a fact its money I will never get back. I dont really care too much about the investment, never bought the bike to make a fortune or anything like that. Its all discretionary spending; no one will ever value the effort you have put in (beauty is in the eye of the beholder).

I have a few things on the go, house, first child etc and when thats back on track I will probably buy/build another bike but will keep the Sporty. Love the bike to death and will have it for 20yrs to come (unless something nasty happens, touch wood we don't go down that path). Point is, bikes worth a fortune to me.............not in monetary value but in pure enjoyment, I have been plotting and planning on what to do and its all finally coming to life!!

Enjoy your bike, forget the $$$ value because you're never getting back, personalise it and than ride the shit out of it. Some will say your crazy, others will say your an enthusiast..................!!

hey macka i bought an 06 street bob new and spent close to 30 k on it over a 5 year period then sold it for 22k and i might be a bit of a show pony but it was worth every cent
to always have the best looking bike on a run that always turned heads and that none of ya mates could catch on the road (not to mention the fun to ride). I gave up the piss
years ago and can think of nothing better to spend my money on. If it makes you happy do it i say. Anyways now you got the 120 in, so it has already started :-)

It's a good question Macka; I don't keep a track of what I spend on the bike. The receipts are here if I choose to add 'em up but I'm gonna keep buying stuff until it's exactly what I want/like.

If you're a 'buy & sell at the right time' kinda person with an Accountant to advise you on such matters then yeah, keep it lean and sell it with low kliks every so often.

But I think bikes are like girlfriends - some are keepers and some ya keep until they give ya the shits.
