Hi all, i am only new to Harleys, i have a 2011 cvo softail with the 110cu motor. Do these motors typically use engine oil between services.

Mine has done 9000k's had to put about a liter of oil in it before the 8000km service. The service guy said they all use oil. Previous life i had a vtx 1800c honda and it  used  no oil. Looking forward to all comments. ps i do ride it hard on occassions. Thaks

My understanding is, it's a Harley, it's loud, and it uses oil. It all so makes me grin like a cheshire cat (so I can forgive the oil usage).

Mine uses fuck all between services.. I don't think that accepting a bike that has done 9k use 1L of oil is acceptable. Be aware of wet sumping as well as you can get sucked into thinking that your oil is low when it isn't, It has just drained down into the sump past the oil pump. When you start the bike it gets pumped back up into the tank.

AJ56 does have a good point, a 2011 model shouldn't be using THAT much, yes some, but not a litre in under 8000km. Keep a check on it, and keep grinning!

something not right with a litre - i have a 110" CVO and i've been told that all these do need a top-up - i use a little in mine (but shit not a litre) - other models don't seem to need a top-up between oil change

I've just clocked 8000ks on mine with some reasonably hard riding in there. I changed my oil at 6000 and have not had to top up at all. Checked my oil yesterday and it has not moved since change. I'd be a little concerned at that oil usage R8 M8 unless you haven't had any services???
