    Hey all

I bought a while back a 84 xlh in boxes with the idea of building a bobber, I bought a weld on rigid for it the other day from the states and just found a wideglide conversion kit for a 88 xlh on cheesebay will this fit my 84? I'm a total noob to sportsters and haven't got up with what fits what as well as this board so bare with me if I bugger up every now and again with stupid questions :)

    TIA
    Taffy

Taffy, what sort of kit is it? Is it simply a new triple tree, check to make sure the your fork diameter is equal to the size you are buying. It is my understanding that historically the fork diameter for Sportsters is 39mm, however I am not too sure how far this goes back? Google the dimensions for your bike and do a comparison vs. the kit you want! If it is a whole new front end, check to make sure the forks will give you clearance and you don't have to make any unnecessary changes to the frame. I once considered putting a springer front end on my 2010 Iron, but realised you need to notch the frame slightly for clearance and that was enough to turn me right off the idea.

Taffy, I bought a Vlcan Engineering Wide Glide Conversion kit from the states. It was trees, spacers etc, no forks. Worked a treat and bolted on perfectly. Also fitted a set of their raked fork cups that was generously donated by a forum member. May be worth a look, assuming they have a kit or they may be able to make something up for you.
