Newby here, going to by my first Harley in a couple of weeks, a Sporty 1200 custom, but as I'm a real shortarse, I was wondering if anyone can tell me how much lower could I drop a 1200 custom, I intend to get a super reduced reach seat for it, but every inch helps. hope someone can help me out.

    Cheers, Graham.

When you say short, how short? I'm 5"6' and i use 11" rear shocks and can go flat foot, sometime i put on my 1" lowering blocks as well to really drop the ass....

5'2", so pretty short, I can reach the forward controls no probs, I'd just like to be as close to flat footin' it when stopped. Is 11" as short as you can go in the shocks? what's the lowering block you mention, haven't heard of them, did ya lower the front as well? sorry for all the questions just trying to get this right.

    Cheers, Graham.

you can find 10.5" shocks but they are rather harsh from what i hear. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/BURLY-SLAMMER-LOWERING-SHOCKS-HARLEY-SPORTSTER-04-10-/150664560944?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&hash=item23144ec130

the lowering blocks basically shift where the lower bolt hole is on the shocker, it ,moves it back an inch thus making the bike lower, but you will bottom out over hard bumps.

Yep thats one thing i forgot, i do drag my exhaust when i push the corners. also have a good look into seats, my lepera barebones brings me forward an inch and is one of the lowest seats available.

Standard height (12.5" shocks on custom from memory) clearance isn't great, I can just clear gently dropping off curb onto road, and have scraped more than a few times on driveways and speed bumps and broken the side stand spring lug off.  If you can get one foot flat with other on peg you should be alright.  I personally wouldn't go more than an inch lower in suspension.

Kevlad, hang on to those shocks for a couple of weeks, and I might buy them off you.

I've sat on quite a few bikes (sportys) and none of them let me touch the ground perfectly, the closest I've come was one on the weekend in the city, I was told it was a 1200 custom low, import from the states, not doubting the import side of things, but I've looked long and hard since and can't find any refference to that model, so I'm guessing it's just a custom with lowered shocks. The price was a bit steep, and an '07 model with 800 ks, sounds off to me.

They replace the speedo as part of compliance.  No such thing as custom low, theres a 1200 custom and a 1200 low.  How much?  They seem to be around US$7k on ebay, plus couple grand freight, couple grand compliance, bit of mark up, so what $12-13k?

They were asking 17,900, it had a fair bit of bling, but I thought it was well overpriced.

Seems to be an abundance of them. $13k - $15k.

Yeah I reckon yours looks great kevlad, just what I'm after.

Scouser, you might be right, but I just like the look of the customs and lows better.

can anyone tell me if the only difference between a custom and a low is the forward controls?

    Cheers, Graham.
