So I have been in Port Douglas for the last few days before heading to the Goldy for work next week, and I gotta say, the harley-to-population ratio here is crazy! Hear one go past at least every half hour.... and its not a big place.

Harley tours galore, tourist hire or just my kinda place?

There's a big bike scene up the road at Mareeba - always seems to be a show on.
A ride through the tablelands should be on your bucket list, and the ride from cairns up to port douglas is pretty cool.
Then there's the ride down to mission beach....
Or a bit of a scoot up to cape trib through the rain forrest, great pub up there.....
Nah, just your sort of place mate.

    +1.
back in the day when I used to ride a rice rocket I loved that run from Cairns to Port Douglas along the coast road.

Looking forward to visiting up there again soon<img src=" src="/DesktopModules/NTForums/themes/_default/emoticons/smile.gif" />

When you get to the goldy the fuckwit to druggie ratio is huge. Stay up there if you can!

went for a run with a mate from cairns to port and it was more fun than the townsville to cairns leg.

Townsvile is the base for 4 hour leg to any decent ride.

Gotta luv the Cairns to Port run, Cairns to Mareeba and over the tablelands, up to Ravenshoe back through to Malanda over to Millaa Millaa and down the Palmeston to Innisfail back to Cairns, lot of excellent rides up there, do miss them.

The Cairns to Port Douglas run is pretty much the regular weekend run for riders up this way, ride up in the morning and grab lunch/coffee and often head back via Julatten and Mareeba and either down Kuranda Range or across the tablelands and down the Gillies or Palmerston.

I normally would have done the ride to Port this Sunday but went up to Kuranda instead as I had things to do in the arvo at home.

It is true though, there are PLENTY of bikes up this way who love to do the Port run on a weekend.  I live near the highway at the northern beaches and all morning Sunday you hear them on the way up and all afternoon you hear them on the way home.

Planning to do a run in a couple of weeks with a mate of mine and go from Cairns to Innisfail, up the Palmerston, through the tablelands to Mareeba and depending on the day whether we go via Julatten/Port and home or nip down Kuranda and home.

Is it a hot spot for cops these days?

    Any hidden speed traps etc?

There are a few spots on the way to Port where they park on the side of the road but you can usually see them from miles away (or the other bikers coming the other way let you know).  Ellis Beach is usually where they tend to hide out and spring ya.

On the way to Kuranda yesterday there was a chicky-cop 1/2 way up the range in a pull-off-space on the side of the road with the speed gun...  Could have been an RBT for all I know, I just coasted past while she had someone else pulled over, gave a nod to me and we both went on our merry little way.  She wasn't there an hour later on my way back down the hill tho...

I have only noticed 2 cop cars in Port, in 5 days! ha ha.... and they were both just cruizin around when I was out in the spa smashed at 4am. Unwinding is an understatement.

Deadwood - Im told Im recording the drums at Grifith uni, then the rest is in Molendinar (if that how you spell it). Are all the roads still torn up for trams that are going in? That was a pain in the arse last time I was here....

Damn SJ, if I'd read the part about you being a drummer I would have organised a jam session over a few beers while you were up this way, I've even got an electric kit set up just in case a drummer happens to come nearby..  AND I just had my new keg system setup right near the music gear so I don't have to go far for a fresh beer!

Pity you aren't up here this coming weekend, there's a Bike Expo in Kuranda which I can't make it to coz I'm working...

I was the engineer recording the drums... then guitars.. then bass etc all week (till sun up everyday). Although Im always up for a jam on whatever.

Didnt have net on the goldy, but cheers for the suggestions. Saw the kebab shop anyways!

Next time I think I will ride up.... make a month of it and do a few jobs, and more "recoup" days.
