I finally got the new Ikons fitted to my Iron on Thursday and had a bit of a ride around the nice goat tracks they have through-out sydney. The difference was noticable, and i'm not sure if it was just psychological, but I swear it corners better and it definately rides better.

    Great improvement & highly recommended!

Dont have shocks swapped yet, but the right suspension settings for your weight and riding style will always help it corner "better".... better for you at least. Same as when you change the front it can improve brake feel as well.

    Hey SJ

i dig the mods to your iron. Can you tell me where the cool triple tree / clips came from and also can you give me a link to find a large image of the 883 custom with the whitewalls?

    cheers

Had Ikon's on the back for about a year now and noticed the difference immediately. Im having progressive springs fitted to the front at the weekend and looking forward to waving bye bye to that bloody irritating wallow i get at the moment. After that its onto the tyres (going for Pirelli Night Dragons) and last but not least some new front brakes. You watch, ill probably trade the friggin thing when its all done and have to start all over again !

Blackadder - talk me through the brakes you're looking at? I'm keen to do the same (improve the brakes), but every option I can think of makes my eyes water.

Wallowing front is a polite way to put it I think - I got both the rear and the forks with Ikons - yes, it's a beautiful thing now. Wallow-free!

Thanks Scouser - did you change the rear ones too?

    Where'd you get yours from?

Ah, just saw a post from you Scouser in another thread - you got them from your local Stealer... all good, I'll poke around & see where I can get some of my own from... although, I'm keen on updating the rear ones too...

So you can lock the rear up quicker? Maybe Im still to dirt/ sport bike from riding weight-forward for years, but I rarely use any back brake.... only to control slow turns or squeezing gaps.

Have done the same change as Scouser and also hardly use the rear brake

Do the XR's have better stock front suspension than the XL's stock ?

Just had the front springs replaced with Ikon Progressives. What a difference. Feels like a new bike, both in the way ot handles and just the general stance. Sure its a little bit stiffer so you feel the bumps more, but what a joy to know when you corner its going to stay true. Ikon's front and back now, highly recommended.

By the way, i spoke to the mechanic about the brakes. He took it for a run and tested them and said they were pretty good. He recommended staying with whats on, but just flushing through with fresh fluid. He reckons any new brakes would only show marginal improvement.

Im no expert (far from it) but I reckon Brakes and suspension go hand in hand .I had to hit my front brakes real hard not long ago and the front bogged down real hard and I was very close to going over the bars ,If I was to put better brakes on I would want better suspension too

I finally got around to ordering my front Ikon springs, faxed my order on Wednesday 1pm and had them at my door first thing Thursday morning...i couldn't believe it now that is some good service...I'm impressed and haven't even fitted them yet. I'll get around to putting them in this weekend, i'll make sure to take plenty of pictures, is it worth changing my fork oil (3000km old) or just leave it?
    Regards Andrew

Got a little pissed last night and at 3am decided to fitbthe we front springs , I noticed that the stock springs are progressive but a much lighter spring and around 200mm shorter. With the cap off they stick out 50mm(spacer tube) but with the ikon's they sit just below the end tube, so I cut the supplied nylon spacer in half to create the same length all back together in under 20minutes, I haven't ridden it yet but it seems alot stiffer and now I am unable to just rock the bike and get it to bottom out, if the weather clears up I'll take it for a spin later.

I just went for a ride, as I expected it is alot firmer maybe too much, I'm thinking about taking the spacers out and I have zero rider sag in the front.
