TTS Update Issue

     Hey all,

So today I tried to update TTS and ran the software Updater.  Everything went OK, except for one bit that now has it stuck in a loop.

DataMaster HD states that the current installed version is 1.4.6 and the latest version is 1.8.2.  So it downloads but when it runs the install it does a bit and then flashes back to the updates screen and goes around again.  It doesn't update.

I have rebooted several times etc.  Anyone else have this issue?

    Cheers

    Mongrel

    Thanks steve,

I guess I could probably leave it as is. I am very happy with the way the bike is running at the minute. Am running the Kurry map they put out, but am thinking on doing some Vtunes this spring and thought I should get it ready - but I guess there is no real need for me to upgrade I suppose.

    Cheers

The only issue we have ever had with the updater has been overloading of the data sometimes. Try it again and see if it doesn't work OK. One other thing to try is make sure you have no other programs running at the same time.

    Hi Steve,

No luck I am afraid!! It just does not want to update.

There is nothing else running on this machine - it is running on a VM and so has no other software as it was setup purely for TTS. If its not critical that I update it, then I don't mind doing the V-Tunes with the older versions.

I guess I could try and uninstall and re-install. Hmm... I need to find the disks though. ooh.. that might be a sticking point.

Dump the whole program, keep the map you are using and then try a complete reinstall and see if that fixes the problem. Sometimes when a server is overloaded it will miss some of the data. You may have got an incomplete download of the program. It has the installer but not all the files...

Thanks lads. No AV running. No nothing.

It is as lean a windows install as you can get.

Not to worry. I will see if I can find the disk and rip it out and try again.

Thanks Dave - It is completely up to date.
PS - I am a Certified Microsoft Engineer - so no probs there. The problem seems to be that TTS just crashes out after the installer starts to run.

I am hoping I can find my disks and so I can blow it away and start again to see if that works.

    Cheers

Thanks Steve, interesting read. In the end it does not matter to me because the bike is too different for the stock map anyway.

Hmm.. Considering all the above, and considering my scoot is running like a gem already, and considering that much success can be had with a lower version of TTS - Me thinks I will stay with the version I have and Vtune with it. Problem solved. :)

Steve, yes I agree there should have been some disclosure here. I personally dont have any issue at the moment, I am not about to buy another tuner when my bike has never run better with the MT8 file thats in it. Thanks for the heads up for the next bike though.

On a similar experience I had a dynotuned map (MT7) which I have been running since christmas, put in a new MT8 map, done the cam analyzer thing, loaded in a new map from that to v-tune but ran out of time to v-tune. I put the dynotuned (MT7) map back in (not tampered with at all) to go for a ride & bike struggled to start & did not quite run the same but it was exactly the same map. Go figure.

Yes, the best thing would be to put your backup calibration on a memory stick for those of you worried about it as it can happen. We were faced with a problem and that was if the dealer tried to reprogram the unit and screwed up the tune and ECM due to the changes we need to make, what then? So we were faced with how to solve for that, leave it unlocked and allow it to happen or lock it and stop it from happening. You all know which way we chose, as we felt that was the safest route to go. I carry my interface and calibrations on a memory stick that I have in my saddle bag. The memory stick was $5.00 and I use a large package list pouch stuck to the inside of the lid of the bag. So I have all the programs and calibration on the stick along with the interface and cables with me at all times. I do not even think about it as it stay in the pouch all the time.

As for ECM failures they are very rare and most of the time caused by someone trying to reprogram the unit, but it doesn't hurt to have a backup in place.

Steve - Just out of curiosity, what if the TTS Dongle itself dies? Can a replacement be used?

If the interface somehow gets ruined all we can do is have you ship it in for repairs. What I can say is with over 100,000 units in the field we have had less than 10 failures and several of those were customer caused.

    Thanks Steve,

The next question would be... what if I lose the interface?

What I am trying to ask is...

Is my ECM locked to my specific interface, or could I buy another one that would work?

I am trying to work out what the risk is if things go wrong.

    Cheers

You would need to ship the ECM to us for unlocking and or matching a new interface too.

OH MY!!! That was what I was afraid of!

Being in Australia that would mean weeks and weeks without my bike because either the interface fails, or is stolen - or lost. That is just plain scary.

So... let me get the facts straight.

Right now - I have used the TTS version pre 1.6. So if my TTS is lost, I can could go and get me another tuner, be it TTS or otherwise, and tune until my hearts content. If I upgrade to 1.6 or above, I could be in a world of hurt should the interface fail or I lose it.

    Fair statement?

    Hi Steve,

Now you have confused me. In your previous message you stated that I would need to send you the ECM if I lost my interface. Now you state it would be easier to buy a new one.

Can you please clarify the following...

    1) - If I upgrade to 1.6 and lose my interface - can I simply purchase a new one, or do I need to send you the ECM?

    2) - If I don't upgrade and lose my interfacce - Can I simply purchase a new one, or do I need to send you the ECM?

OOPS! PWahahah!! Sorry mate - Well, lets hope Steve Cole can answer my concerns.

What I don't want is to lose my dongle, or it gets stolen, and I then have no choice bu to send the ECM to USA to be able to tune my ride. That is plain crap in my books, and if that is the case, then I will continue to run the old version.

I understand the issues they had, but one only has to think of the hassle mobile phone companies go through because of locked handsets. Not what I would call smart.

Locking the Dongle to the ECM is fine - means you can't share it around - all good. But locking the ECM in my $30,000 machine to a 3rd party vendor is just stupid.

Steve... a concern I have is that my bike, a 2007 Dana was tuned by someone else with an open dongle. Where does that leave me and can I take the bike to say a dyno tune for more tuning with yet another dongle?
