Tuning without dyno on Iron 883?

Just ticked over 15,000 on the Iron. I obviously bought it to ride it

Have done evreything on her myself. Just did a service, adjusted the clutch, chain and drive belt to within specs in the service manual. Havnt had a chance to clean and blow out the air filter element due to living arrangements at the moment. I did replace it at 12,700kms

My question is, can a tune be done without a dyno tune at all? I know it's all electronic and I dont have an eprom programmer or any of that crap.

I ask because the bike just seems to be running a bit sluggish. Still using the same fuel as always, BP ultimate but lately around the past 500kms, she just doesnt seem as responsive under throttle. Seems to be bogging down a little and doesnt go as hard as she once did. No mods have been done other than slip on's.

I assume that I need to fork out for a dyno tune? Anyone?

With the Ignition and Standard EFI Mangment, there is no adjustment, This is why you have to add a Tunner once you change the Pipes or Air Cleaner, so it can be reset. If the Bikes not performing and it was better before I would try Diffrent Fuel, Just because the bouser said it's 98 dosn't mean that it is. Fuel Comanys play with Fuel during the corse of the year becauce of weather, Once you fuck with the Stock Factory Settings buy changing Pipes and not fitting a Tuner this is what you going to find, same if you have a tuner and it's not set corectly to comancate to diffrent Weather and Fuels. I have a Bike that Loved 98 in summer and in winter it would only run on 95, you not need a TTS, if it's just Pipes and Air Cleaner Later, Fuel Pack or Comander will work fine, TTS is realy only if you have fitted Cams and Headwork, overkill on a stock bike

Thanks gents. I think I will try different fuels. It has been running fine for 14,000kms but around the last 1000 she has not been herself. In the process of changing the rear tyre but will fuel up with maybe v-power and see how it goes.

Walker I have only changed the pipes, no intake modifications or anything else.

Thanks again fellas, ill let you know how I go. Now to put this new tyre on!

@shotgunhemi - just to confirm... You only installed new pipes and nothing else? No air filter or tuner? Just reading so many different posts about what to fit and in which combination. In my situation I can only afford SE pipes right now. The rest would have to wait half a year or so. Question is if I damage the engine by doing so and if it's not better to wait until I can afford all at once?
    2011 48 btw

Viob, only modification (other than cosmetics) are screaming eagle slip ons.

Walker, I didnt really think that changing pipes and nothing intake related or anything else, would change the way she runs. I didnt notice a difference in 13,000 odd kms, only about now at 15,000.
The pipes are SE slip ons and not completely different like vance and hines or two into one ect.

But yeah it does make sense with a change of weather I suppose. I may need to get the better breather and tuner in the future..

Thx shotgunhemi. Thinking about the SE slip ons as well. One more question... How much louder/deeper is the SE sound over the standard pipes? Noticable or same same? Rode behind three full on V&H equipped bikes today and couldn't hear my own bike at all. Had to rev to make sure it was still running :) so it's time to do something about it I think...

Viob, if you want your Harley to sound like a sewing machine, keep the stockies on ;)

Nah I love the SE's. My mate used to have vance and hines on his spotster 1200C, I hated riding behind him, way too loud and over a lomg ride it did my head in. He got over 2 EPA's too.

I think my SE's sound fantastic over stock. They have a great note that shouldnt piss the neighbours off too much but put it this way- I still feel guilty when I have an early shift and start her at 6am!

Anyone use one of these? http://sales.nightrider.com/ViED_p_13.html

I have heard good things about them, much cheaper than a remap and dyno- $119 U.s for the adjustable one in the link, otheres are $99 U.s

That looks interesting. Did anyone understand the different versions yet? Struggling to get my head around it. Do I understand it right:

XiED - for bikes with stage 1 air cleaner and new pipes

X14iED - same as XiED but for Sportsters only?

ViED - same as XiED but adjustable?

AF - XiED - same as XiED but more adjustable?

And has anybody seen some installtion instructions? And one more question do these work without new air cleaner as well? So new pipes only?

    Cheers,

    P

    @ Razor
Even when I'm logged in I can't send you a PM?! In any case... I would like to buy the X14iED. Perhaps you can send a PM to confirm...

Thanks Slapster, some good advice, I will check the a/c.

And to the rest of you bastards, the bargain offered by Razor should be mine considering this is my thread! Nah just kidding, first in best dressed-your still bastards!

Think I may invest in the adjustable one for $119

You are right... sorry for hijacking your thread... but the offer was too good :)
Let's see how this thing works. Next item on the list are SE or V&H slip ons.

    shotgunhemi...
i got the vieds for my iron883, they help. Theres a ton of info on the American "hdforums.com" if you want more details about them. The guys at nightrider are awesome, they sent me a replacement when my dog ate one of them :S
i noticed the diff when i took them off when one got eaten and the bike felt like it was struggling, then put them back on and ran sweet again. With the ViED you can changed the air to fuel ratio, so you can tweak it to some extent. General consensus is with pipes and ac these are adequate. Anything more and you might need a real tuner, but you know, everyone will tell you something different.
btw im running stock ac and V&H slipons at the moment.
