    Hi Everyone,

After years of riding sports bikes I am on the verge of buying my first Harley, a new Blackline. I know the jury is out on the Blacklne but I like it and that is all the I really care about.

I am going to commute on the bike most days in Sydney M2 traffic and I think it will be a great bike to do it on, the thin bars suit a bit of lane splitting and the bike comfy and I dont need to be doing 160kmh to enjoy myself. On top of that the deal is awesome !!

My big questions relate to mods on the bike, a stock one seems a bit slow and I have ridden one with a SE stage 4 103 kit that was awesome but I am worried about it being a bit of a pig and unreliable for day to day use ? The dealer can fit the satge 4 kit and pipes etc for about 6k, is that about right or is that way to much I like the fact it is dealer fitted as it will have warranty or am i better off buying the bike stock and doing everything aftermarket ? Should I just do stage 1 and see what i think (pipes, filter, tune) ??

I have an 800hp car that I drag race and there are so many things I would have done differently if I had my time again and I dont want to make the same mistake withe the bike.

    thanks...

The standard 103 with be different to the stage 4 kit. The stage 4 has 260 cams etc it is the top kit from se 100/100 I believe ?? The price does seem high I think the kit is about 3k not sure. Who is a good Indy in syd that could fit one? Would they do it or do they only fit their parts ..what kit was the 103 you were quoted on .

The 2012 model will be a fair bit more cash for a slightly bigger motor in my view. I might be better off buying a stock one ?

i think the 2012 will be cheaper thats why HD aust is holding it back till it clears stock, if it was more theywould do what they did every other year and they be released now. I could be wrong my bet is they be cheaper

I am looking at 20k ride away. I was thinking the same thing I reckon they will be cheaper this year. I don't think they will be less than 20k though....

Also consider (I seem to recall) no warranty on the Stage 4 kit components--flagged as racing use only. Don't get in a hurry and go overboard from the kick off. I would do a stage 1 with a tuner and ride it til the waranty expires, then hook into it. You can do a lot better that that anemic S4 kit with the aftermarket anyway.

I'd wait for the 2012 unless a dealer made a killer offer on the current model as a runout to move it off the floor.

Nothing wrong with the 96 mate, put in some decent cams, A/C, pipes and TTS for about $2k and you will have a nifty comute that runs reasonably cool and be a good twistie dragger.

if you want to go fast stick to Jap bikes.  No need to blow $6K and still get beaten off the lights by R1. What you are buying is a crusier, Stage 1 with the correct pipes is plenty enough for this sort of bike being ridden daily IMO.
