     Hi guys,

I have just bought a 2004xl 883. It currently has a stretch tank and fender set on it. It also came with peanut tank and original fenders in box. Im in the process of getting them repainted. how much work is it to remove the tank and replace it myself? Am I better off just getting my local dealer to do it? I have limited skills, but have been learning quite quickly. Any advice would be appreciated!

    Cheers

It's as easy as boiling an egg.

The dealer will tell you to drain the fuel for safety reason's but when I remove my tank on my Street Glide, I never do.

You will find the bolts are the neck as well as under your seat. Disconnect the wire that does to the fuel pump and the fuel line on the tank itself is similar to an air chuck. Pull the outer layer of the cylinder and detach. You should not have any fuel coming out of it. You will see bolts that need to be removed as you move along. Should be a 10 minute process and no more than 15.

Normally Bruce Springsteen is the only Boss I listen to. Thanks for the reply, Im trying to avoid the dealer if I can. Its hard enough having the coin to buy the parts, dont want to get stung for everything, Im learning fast and really enjoying it.  This forum is sensational.

    Cheers mate

+1 mcgregor, nothing to it, took my tank off to change bars and didn't drop any fuel. Give it a go, it's a good job to get you started. While your there have a look at how simple things really are on them, it's an eye opener, if you get stuck you have an abundant of experts to help you out.
