    Hi all,

Im in the process of commencing the building of my dream chopper/harley. I want to build something way over the top like a 300 plus ass end, 145 ci plus engine and something that will win trophy's at bike shows. Ive attended several bike shops who have told me its impossible to buid a bike like this then register it. They told me im better off building a bike that is already registered. I have a budget of around 80-100k to play with.

I wanted to buy a frame and begin from there but the shops advised against this. I want something unique and aint really interested in a bike kit. Also i want to build my own dream and not buy another ones dream so that option is out.

Any advise for building my bike within NSW would be greatly appreciated.

    Cheers

    Dan

Mate, 80k-100k wont buy much. There were multiple bikes at the 66's show at Easter in the 150- 200K+ range.

    Hey Dan,

I'm just saying,  you could buy a Thunder Mountain Custom Cycle like I ride and race.  There is a company called Dream Machines in Texas that purchase the last lot from the original Company Thunder Mountain Harley-Davidson located in Colorado which also owed Thunder Mountain Custom Cycles. If you like having a bike that has a 300 tire, right side drive true overdrivesix speed tranny, hydraulic clutch ( no shit, it's a one finger pulled ), some came with SE103, SE110, or a Jim's 120.

I drove from Annapolis, Maryland to San Diego, California in four days on my Thunder Mountain.  No pain, and I'm 59 years old and 7% plastic and metal on my left side. Comfort and good looks.

Each paint job they did was different from the others, they have joey perse front ends, 21 in front wheel, 18 in rear wheel. RC Component Wheels. I'm just saying, you could and be able to ride it to the shows.

you need to talk to a proffessional custom bike builder, work out the design you want etc. plan well ahead. 80 to 100 k should get you something decent. keep in mind just about anything you can think of has been done,so if you want something diffent your gonna have to think out side the square. easiest way to get it regoed would be to buy a currently registered bike and use it as a base. i have been going to, and judging bike shows for years and i reckon the days of real radical customs are just about gone. most big name builders are going back to a more simplistic approach, the old skool chopper/bobber look is all the craze at the moment. its cheaper, cleaner looking and a bit more functional. Custom baggers are starting to make their presence felt around the shows a bit too and the LA Gangsta style of bike is becoming popular as well.
