If this has been asked 500 times feel free to not respond and just point me in the right direction for the answer im looking for. Im looking to purchase my first harley from a dealer. Ive found the bike i want i just need to know what checks i should be doing before signing the dotted line?? The bike is currently unregistered so makes it hard to do any vic roads searches because no info comes up!! The bike is an 03 softail with 33,000k on the clock so seems to be fairly genuine. How am i suppose to know if the bike is a repairable writeoff or had another engine dropped in it if it is unregistered and i cant match it against vic roads records??

Get the vin number and do a security check through vicroads to see if any finance or anything untoward, good chance its a US import if its from Peter Stevens, someone on here will be able to help you id it through the Vin number.

yeh it has been imported from the US. when i punched the Vin number into the vic roads website it had no details because the bike hasnt been registered..

Mate, how much is it? There are some damn good private deals going around ATM. Check the for sale section on here also.

like HD said, aviod any dramas mate and have a look around....heaps of good bikes out there

if you are unsure of what you are buying have someone cheque the bike out for you even if you have to pay someone to do it , a few dollars spent prior to buying it for a inspection could save a whole lot of headache

its a 2003 harley davidson softail custom 21,500 on road done 33000km. Bike appears to be in very good nik! Cant see any signs of being dropped or anything. Its at A1 in ringwood. Staff there have been very helpful so far Might have a bit of a look through the private sale section and see what there is before committing tho
