Poor fuel consumption on an 09 Harley Nightster around town

Fuel light comes on at around 80Ks with city riding

Does anyone else report extremely poor mileage on a modified or dyno tuned Harley Nightster. My bike has done 8000Ks, it is an 09 with screaming eagle side heavy breather and SS slip ons. The bike has been dyno tuned as well. Almost all my riding is in the city. The tank also has a 2 inch lift which may affect the amount of fuel that goes in the tank, but should affect the actual usage figures stated below

I use Premium fuel (I did use a bit of regular at the start before I was told to stop using it, and I think the bike may have been dyno'd on regular) dont know if these facts may have any bearing on the situation

Anyway -  The fuel light comes on after about 80ks and I reckon I get 130Ks out of a tank (around town).

I have calculated that I get about 10Ks per litre.

Apart from being dyno'd, I have no idea if I may have a problem that may need investigation. There is no fuel leaking out and the bike seems to run ok.

Most people tell me they get a lot more mileage than me, but I do not know if their bikes have been dyno'd or if they do as much stop/start riding in the city

.I am interested to know if anyone has had a similar expreience with thes type of mileage figures, as I am not sure if I need to investigate a possible problem or where I would start. If the bike sounded bad or ran poorly the peoblem might be easier to solve. Fuel and carby systems are not one of my strong knowledge areas,

(PS on the Open road I get about 130Ks before the fuel light comes on)

With a 2" lift, the mods you've made and round town riding it doesn't found too out to me.
Doesn't a lift lose you like 2lt? So you've give from 12 to 10, add to that you're riding around town.

Put it this way.. With my dead stock 48 I was getting 90ks before the light came on with a mix of 80% hwy and 20% town, added pipes, ac and ecu, it dropped to 76ks.. So a nearly 20% drop. Now I know if I keep running it can juuuuust get 100ks. So 100ks, 7lt.. That's about 14ks per l.. You get 130 out of 10 (by all account a lift loses you some juice as thr fuel take up is halfway along the tank), that's about 13k pl around town.

May not be too off the money? These bikes are NOT ver efficient!

i have much the same as Scouser and get the same k's on my Iron, i think a Dyno will help some as the map that is in my bike is a POS, from the stock/SE mapping there are gains to be had that is for sure. The hard part is finding a tuner that acctually understands howe to tune and not just flash in some other crap map...

I get about 140 - 160 and that's riding it like its stolen!!

I'm running a 1250cc with cams and it still gives okay mileage, could always ask for more, however I am not overly keen on the 4.5gallon tank on the customs and like the peanut tank on my Iron!!

Glad I have the custom, bigger tank. If I ride like I stole it I still get 190k before I turn the tap for reserve, Each to their own on looks.

Yeh I get about 140-150km's on my Iron before the fuel light comes on.  I ride 15k's on 80-100km/hr then 10k's on 60km/hr in town (lights n stuff).

im sure they are all about the same in consumption or close to it, but on the highway at 115-120 they seem to get the best milage. my neigbour has a 1200 as well and we both use about the same even though we run different carbies.

    What tuner are you using?

Is your fuel consumption worse than it was when you first had it dynoed.

Why do you lose capacity with a tank lift?

Daimoh, the pick up inside the tank is about half way up. Whe. You lift the front of the tank, you lose access to some of the fuel in the bottom half of the tank. It's why I haven't done a tank lift, even though I like the look of them. TC
