thinkin about puttin a detachable windshield on 2007 superglide, chewin the fat on 17inch  from top of headlight.  i understand lookin over the top may still cause the head to bob, but would take alot of wind off the body. had a purla the other day, thought it would blow a dog off a chain. p.s no i dont eat soft marshmallows

I have some food for thought on a windscreen for a DYNA.

I actually wanted to buy one of those quick release screens for my 09 FXDC but decides not to, now let me explain.

A good friend of mine has a Heritage and had a spill on the Putty road near Wilberforce cause some arsehole dropped a lot of deisal on the road. What happened next changed my mind on a screen for a DYNA. He flow over the bars and because his screen is a REAL quick release it came off the moment he hit it!!!!!! On his HD the screen just clips on.

INow back to me wanting to buy a screen.

They do not make a screen that detachess like that for a DYNA. Had I been the one going over the bars and trying to fly through the screen I may well have had serious injuries by the screen not coming off. I didn't buy a screen and had asked HD if they had a screen that attaches to a DYNA like they attach to a HERATIGE and the answer was NO!!!!!!

They clamp on around the top of the forks and dont break away.

    My 2 bobs worth....

I have a quick release windshield for my Fatboy. My daughter & son-in-law bought it for me last Christmas (love them dearly) I wonder what I will get this Christmas???

When I fitted it and went for a ride it was great, it removed a lot of wind from hitting me, especialy the buffeting you get when a bus or roadtrain passes you from the opposite direction (you know what I mean), but it was too high. Trying to watch the road in front while looking through the screen was bloody horrible. Not a very clear view.

I started looking around at different sites trying to find out what the proper height a screen should be, and most suggested that the top should be slightly lower than eye level.

I took it to a plastic repairer for him to cut the screen down to my size (he said he does a lot of them). It made a huge difference.

Being that it is a quick release, I have it off the bike most of the time, but only use it when I want it.

    Cheers

riding the wife's Can-Am Spyder, the windscreen, at the press of a button moves up to forehead height or down to chin level.
made a huge difference compared to my Nightrain with no screen on a 400k trip

Plenty of benefits apparently, but I'm told a screen increases fuel consumption. Is that true?

You need your screen to be just below eye sight, cos they get covered in bugs, they get old & dirty (like me) & in the rain they are also hard to see through. They are not for look through they are to give the rider a bit of wind relief (I do that a lot myself) at speed. My screen is on brackets attached to the bars & would fit any bike with handlebars, it seems quite flimsy but has stayed in place for 15,000kms or more & up to 180kph (don,t tell the plod). If I hit something hard enough to go over the bars I think it would be the least of my worries & it would probly just flex bend & break off anyhow.  It suits my sporty, I think, its not too small & not too big, just right said Goldilocks.http://i892.photobucket.com/albums/ac125/Dermie_photos/Sophia-on-Sportsta-Tawonga-Gap.jpg

Long trips it's good for controlling fatigue.

I have noticed no diff in fuel consumption.

It protects you from all nature and other road users throw at ya.

I have found at the start of the ride you look over the shield and about an hour in you are looking through it. Natural body posture slump.

No matter what, you will get used to it whether you look over or through it. Mind over matter.

Pain in the arse when it rains. Well sort of..........Protects you in a way from the rain but hinders the wind clearing of your vision, whether it be glasses or full face visor/helmet.

Detachable is the way to go.

I personally give them a 10 out of 10 for long trips.

I have a HD compact quick-release windshield for my 2011 sporty. I think it's great for riding at higher speeds (over 100 km's). Mine is the perfect height for me (look over, not through), I am just over 6 foot.
