Had a peak inside my Cam cover today. 50,000km on an '05 TC88b. Tensioners have probably 60% meat left on them. Got me thinnking - has anyone actually had an issue with the cam chains/tensioners ? I have read a heap of rumour and innuendo about the TC's however haven't actually come across anyone who has actually had a problem with their own (gotta admit to not being a fan of the Cam plate between the front and rear cam chains though - adjustable pushrods will be the go when the tensioners finally need replacing).

Seems to be one of those things. Some wear very early and make a mess, others seem to last well.
When I changed Cams at 30,000kms mine were fine as well.
You do see pic's of them worn right through though, so it does happen.
Maybe some of the early one's had dodgy plastic ? Some looked to be porous.

Did mine at 40,000k's. Not too bad really, maybe 30% worn. Changed them anyway,

2000 heritage with 22k on it, havent checked the tensioners yet , but cut open the oil filter every time i change it, so far no evidence of red/orange plastic. will probably go gear driven cams somewhere down the track

03 ultra  Chain tensioners mine went or should say are not there anymore...dont knowwhat damage is done theres no oil preasure hopfully just a blockage with the bits of tentioner..oh it has done 90,000 km but when I aquired it yes it had been serviced regulary at I wont say Peter S adelaide.yet they have never been checked ...even got the service papers with the Bike...Anyone out there know of a good honest mechanic in South Australia..luckly it still had 35 -40 psi whilst it was in use only lost preasure upon the next start up like no preasure.

Had mine done at 68000klms (03 Untra) - About 70 plus % worn. I recon change them every 50K and avoid issues, cost me about $600 to have them done & you can sleep at night!

Checked mine at 30,000 outer worn 30% inner about 50%. What did scare me was the inner cam bearing on the front cam was failing and started to chew into the cam.
Replaced bearings with torrington upgrade chain drive to gear drive.

03 ultra mine let go at 50ks, then changed them with new bearings and a set of 203 cams at 95, will do a 1550 kit soon with the SE 07 upgrade Tensioner kit then no more problems.

Will stick with the upgrade it solves the problem no more worry, gear drive to noisy and you have to get it spot on with the back lash.
