two of us plan to take our Harley Davidson to America next year for six weeks. We plan to do Sturgis and travel through Southern Canada and part of America.

Questions Has anyone done this before? We would like information on comprehensive insurance and third party insurance while over there?

Has anyone had any experience using Getrouted for motorcycle transportation?

Okay,.... I used Get Routed and all was good. Dave is a good guy to deal with. he organizes the paperwork at both ends for the shipment. He tells you what is needed, and by when. The craziest bit was having to pay $50 to our own govt. to import my bike BACK into Oz.
The U.S. Insurance company we used was Fernet (www.Fernet.com) they insure international bike riders. My policy covered the U.S. And Canada. Make sure you have cover for uninsured (other person) After lots of time checking options, I found it works out cheaper to ship your own bike and ride....if going for six weeks or more.
The rules for buying, then importing have changed....so check Canberra on that one. Dave at Get Routed can give you info too.
If you don't want to stay right on top of all the noise at the big campgrounds in Sturgis, I recommend "Ride'n Rest" campground. Short distance from the big four where all the bands etc. Play, and a shuttle bus drives through every hour to take you to these or into town. Don't have to drink and ride! But you get to sleep in a quieter area when ya done. Let me know if ya need any more info :)

Thank you Annie888 for your reply i have some other questions. Could you insure your motorcycle for the full value of the bike? Did you insure for public liability and was it expensive?

    Thanks heap gregj

Gregj............yep, insured for full value of bike. Public liability is what they call "uninsured" gives you protection if the other twit isn't insured.
If you go onto the Fernet site you can figure out the cost as you fill in the forms. I dealt with a lady called Phyllis (Phyllis@Fernet.com) and she was very helpful
