Hi all,
Now that I finally picked up my 48 last week the first changes can be made to the orignial setting. I want to put some diamond black items on. Got the derby cover already. Footpegs and hand grips are next.
Question for all the experienced guys out there... as it is my first HD I'm not yet equipped with the right torx and other keys. Can anybody give me a hint what I need for the footpeg install? And how tricky is the installation of the hand grips? Do they just slide over or do I have to disconnect / reconnect the cables etc?
Talking about the hand grips... is it only me or does the throttle grip feel a bit 'flimsy'? Although brand new the throttle has about 3-4mm play left and right along the bar axis. And about the same in the direction of the rotation. Is that a normal HD setting and can it be adjusted? The last bike I had - not a HD - the throttle didn't have any play... perhaps someone can give me a hint.
Cheers,
Peter
Firstly you should purchase a HD Factory Manual or you maybe able to get one from a link on this Forum which was recent in another post.
Manual makes most things very easy to install, setup also things you require for servicing your bike.
Be aware that the footpeg clevis on the 48's is offset, so fitting aftermarket pegs (or genuine HD) will be difficult. I ended up doing away with them and bought standard mounts. A bit pricey though at $163 a set.
A handy tool for footpeg removal/install is a good pair of circlip pliers.
BTW congrats on the new bike.
Cheers.
Be carefull with the Brake Switch changing the Grips, Before undoing the Brake lever pull it in a little and wege in a small peace of cardbord to hold the lever on, only about 3 or 4mm, This will alow you not to brake the Switch when you put it back together
@ MBF I bought a set from Just Tools. The moco make a footpeg bolt kit if you don't want to use circlips.
@ Voib The top part of the clevis is about 1/2" longer than the lower. I ground down the upper on mine but then found that the lower was too short by a beezdik. Good idea to check the peg clearance before grinding metal away. cheers.
