Docking Hardware for Street Glide questions

Today I fitted a four point docking hardware kit to my 2011 Street Glide. A supposedly easy job. The kit was simple. I then tried to put on the sissy bar and rack. They just would not line up- All instructions followed including the bevel of the spacer towards the bracket. I tried just about everything. I finally managed to get it all set up but it is far from easy to put on and take off as it's soo tight. Has anybody had a similar problem and has anyone found a solution? Thanks.

Thought it was only me. Mine was also super tight but now is a good fit - force it on & off a few times & it will be good.

Thanks to all you guys. Seems as if this is more the norm than not. Evidently when loose the rack or sissy bar can rattle and is really annoying. What I did today is remove any rough burs that were caused by trying to force the gear onto the docking points. I did this with a sharp blade. A few squirts of a silicone release spray (or CRC) and it works a treat now.

Done the same had no worries with the rack. The sissy bar is a bit tighter fit, but just found that it takes a bit of practice to get it all lined up correctly then its pretty easy.

Had same issue with my 16 SG. All fitted pre delivery. I just loosened all hardware and rotated tightening all bolts with the rack and backrest on it. The rack was not too bad but the backrest took a bit more work. I actually squeezed the legs of the backrest together a bit and all good now.

Yes they are a tight fit, more use and you get the hang of it

The docking kits black plastic section, (the bit your rack clips onto) is oval shaped. Look closely and you will see little lines on them.. approx 2mm long in a couple spots. rotate them 90* at a time until your rack drops on and off better, both sides may not be at the same point.

    What's this docking crap?!

I started typing docking into google and it automatically came up with a list of search results (for the word docking) with the first result coming from a website called the urban dictionary. Took me by surprise and not something for me

I ended up spacing OUT one of my docking points on my 08 FLHT, I just used an appropriate sized flat washer in behind the plastic locator. It's worked a treat since I bought the bike new. I think you just have to experiment a bit with it, but yes, I shimmed mine out and yes it's worked with no ill result after 92,000 kms.

You're right krackers; it's offensive and I don't know what I was thinking when I posted it up after stumbling across it. Just weird so taken down
