Question about oil

Why is it that a car should be serviced, for example, every 10,000klms OR 6mths yet a bike only needs to be serviced every 8,000lkms?  Why does the time between services not seem to be as important for a motorcycle?

I am no mechanic, but a very good mate is and this is his take on servicing....

If you run your bike/car hard and in dusty environments, then you should service more often than someone who "drives Miss Daisy" and only ever rides/drives when the sun is out. :)

Personally I look to service my bike every 5000ks. But that's just me.

Yeah I hear ya Macka. Right now my dealer has to do it for Warranty - but in 12 months from now, I will be doing my own - like I have done to all my bikes over the last 20 years.

Personally, when using dino oil, I'd change at 4,000kms / 12 months.

I'm now using full synthetic and will probably go the full 8,000kms.

Either way, I wouldn't leave oil change longer than 12 months. Shorter if riding in extreme conditions!
