Yeah, I'd like to know what they'd charge just for the fab work, but only to know how much I'll save by doing it myself....

I'd love to have a crack @ doing it myself, however when it comes to cutting, grinding and whatever else is involved........................I'm guaranteed to fuck it up!! lol

Will update the thread when I've spoken to him, I was planning on getting a few pictures of how it works and than taking them to a local metal shop for a more realistic price!!

I find four hours hard to believe - at least not to get to the stage their bike is at.

Four hours to cut off the stock fender arms and fab smaller ones to mount the aftermarket fender, maybe. But to ride in with a stock bike and ride back out again with the same fender arms/fender/lights/springer seat? No way.

How you going to get home with a bike in parts with no license plate, no rear lights, no fender struts and no seat mounted?

I'm not really sure whether its good value or not, wouldn't have a clue how to even start cutting the bike up myself. They owner of the bike, supplied their own rear fender and the rest was done by Deus.

That would be a huge issue, the bike would be in pieces................if I were going to do it, on a mates dirt bike trailer would probably be the mode of transportation!!

    Bump

Did we ever work out the answer to this, its about the last thing I want to do to my bike before she's finally done?

We got the discussion. Make of it what you will. My understanding is that cho[pping the struts is fine, what matters is that the rear fender still reaches to the 'legal' 45-degree position.

Just to re-hash this topic, I'm taking the plunge and cutting my rear fender struts down and putting on a much smaller rear fender. Will post some pictures shortly!

would be good to know what fender and where you get it from if its not a cut down stock one.

Going to do the chop myself, see how it goes.................been reading a heap of posts on the XL website and looks reasonably straight forward!

Start a thread and post progress pictures and let us all know of anything that became a problem/over looked along the way. Are you going to be putting on a fatter rear tyre while you are at it?

What I'd be interested in knowing is whether the stock rear fender can be chopped at all. Is it already sitting at a 45 degree angle? Or can it brought back at all? I'd like to try and take a bit off without drawing attention to it.

Yeah I agree. The black mounting bracket for the plate is pretty nasty!

With concerns to the number plate issue, in victoria a side mount number plate will cost you 3 points and $244. I know this first hand. Something to keep in mind. I have the factory U.S side mount plate, the law states that it must be visible from 45 degrees left/right/top . The U.S one cuts off the last digit by 1/2. A fucken bullshit law if you ask me, i also herd on the radio today talk about front mounted number plates on bikes yet again. Fucken war on all bikes on Victoria at the moment.....

Wonder how hard it would be to make a little bracket to push the plate out by half an inch or so. That should increase the angle of visibility to allow you to see that last 1/2 digit no?

    By the way,
If ANYONE cuts their rear frame struts, please let me know.

I drool over shit like this, and wanna give it a hit myself. Let me know if anyone's done it. This shit is why I bought my bike.
I want to know where cavalier custom bike builder ends, and fined everytime you go for a ride starts.

Giant Frowny face on this shit being illegal in any way! :(
