could be a goer for this one...
Dang it, i'm giggin', i got all excited there for a minute. Damn the calendar. Love to get a ride one weekend Scar. I'll be in touch
Did the run to Broken Hill then down to Mildura last October, I recommend it but don't waste your time going down to Lake Minindee, nothing there and not worth the fuel. Fill up about 100ks this side of Willcania and at Little Topar about 100ks the other side, because fuel in Wilcannia was about 50cents a litre more than anywhere else. And if you stop in Wilcannia for a bum break, never leave your bike and gear, the locals will take it very fast.
Love that ride, been a few years since i done that, Syd to Broken Hill, then out to Silverton slept out in beer garden at Silverton Pub.
that's good advice Solo has! think only one servo in wilcania now me and a riding m8 stopped early one sunday morning to fill up the servo we used looked like it had been demolished no windows just corrigated iron. last trip through it was gone.
also note i think menindee lakes has water now & the wetlands after wilcania has water again makes the trip even better with those wetlands full of water.
wrong timing for me to head up and meet you guys.... we have the Pub Run Challenge MkIV 3rd - 5th Nov at Edenhope
Hi Guys! Steamer mentioned you were heading my way. Sorry but I will be outta town for that week (trying to find a nursing home in Adelaide for my Mum in-law. The homes here are all full up and a big waiting list).
Anyway the cottages you are staying in aren't too bad - setp out your front door and turn right up over the hill & 500 metres away is the Centro Westside Plaza (Woollies fuel, Maccas, Woollies, Big W, Asian Food place, Cafe, Bakers delight and a few other shops). Step out your front door jump on your rides and turn left - straight through the round-about and off to Silverton - grab a Camel ride just for the hell of it and the Silverton Pub has a lot of memorabilia & there is a Mad Max replica Museum out there too. Lots of dips (39) in the road out to Silverton - even a shop called "Beyond 39 Dips" which sells nick nacks & things.
On the way into town - follow the road to Adelaide (Barrier Hwy 32), it will take you up the main street (Argent) - right turn into Iodide (this corner is the start of the main shopping precinct - so its not a short walk into town) - travel down Iodide Street until you reach Williams Street and turn left (watch for fuckin' B Doubles - they will go right over the top of you) - continue down Williams Street - you will pass our only 24hr servo (Shell) on your right on a Round-about - continue along through one more round-about and then turn left at the next round about - Galena Street (Holden Dealer & road on the right to Silverton) the cottages are on your right about 200 metres up the road. You will find most of the streets are named after minerals - bit of a no brainer for a mining town Have a look at Google Maps and follow highway 32
The Mulga Hotel (first round-about in Williams Street - you will go past it) has a reasonably good feed there if you want a meal and drink. The Silverton Pub has counter meals also if you want to stay for luch etc.
Try and get into town before dusk as the reports go, there are heaps of roo's on the road at dusk between here and Cobar plus the annoying Grey Nomads - the place is full of the fuckers and thier caravans. The only bike shop in town is Magic Motorcycles in the main (207 Argent) street if you need repair thingies etc. Banks are in the main street and an ATM in the Plaza (near where you are staying).
If there is anything else I can help with b4 you leave. pm me and I wil do my best.
Cheers
Chris
