As we all know at the end of the day nothing will change..one prick will take the place of another.Rann will be like all
the others before him and be given a plum job travelling the world earning big bucks with the public service and sitting on a couple of boards. My bet he will end up with some overseas posting (Italy so he can visit the inlaws) revolving around tourism and major sporting events (Lance just lost his golden egg he gets each year)

Rann's reign to end in October

    Updated August 08, 2011 12:38:49

South Australian Premier Mike Rann has agreed to step down from the role on October 20.

Mr Rann was flanked by the man who will succeed him, Education Minister Jay Weatherill, while making the announcement in Adelaide this morning.

He says he wants to work with Mr Weatherill before the transition.

"With more than two years to go before the next election, it remains my belief that there is no pressing urgency to make the transition in leadership right now," he said.

Mr Rann says he was told the party intended to replace him with Mr Weatherill at a meeting with Treasurer Jack Snelling and union powerbroker Peter Malinauskas on Friday July 29.

"I was disappointed with the leaking of selective details of that confidential meeting within minutes of it taking place and in some cases before it actually did take place," he said.

Speculation about the timeline of the handover mounted while Mr Rann was on a week-long trip to India.

Mr Rann says he decided it would be better to vacate the leadership sooner than his planned date of March next year.

"Continuing speculation about the date of my departure would have been unhelpful to the Government and the State," he said.

Mr Weatherill thanked Mr Rann for his endorsement.

"I've always said that the best way to handle the transition is by agreement and we've reached agreement," he said.

Mr Rann says he has not decided whether he will retire from Parliament after relinquishing his current office.
