anyone experienced this on their FLH's--Cheers Grim
Ahhhh yeah. Older model electraglides are famous for this. I was the proud owner of a 96 ultra, and I can tell you from expirience that its a problem that is not resolveable with these bikes. You push them hard in the corners and it will reach a point where it wobbles. True track and other aftermarket devices can minimise it, but there is only one way to get rid of it. Trade it in on a 2011 model. They have a revised frame thats less prone to this unerving thing. Thats how I solved it after 6 years of throwing money at it .
The swing arm is mounted to the motor assembly, which is rubber mounted to the frame. In some conditions the flex can get out of control, but you have to be pushing it. Upping the rear shock air pressure can alleviate some of the weave, as on any bike, but there goes the comfort factor. If the engine mounts are a bit loose, not aligned correctly or worn, it can make for interesting handling at speed, but most don't buy a HD to go fast, we buy them to leisurely cruise on country roads and smell the road kill early in the morning....aah!! clears the fucken nostrils.... You may remember the Qld police had an issue with the ST Hondas weaving at high speed. From memory, this was caused by the airflow over the rear panniers causing the problems. Maybe a different cause, same result.....
