My new custom backrest

I just wanted to share a few pics of the backrest I just installed on my FXR. The pad and upright are off a V-Rod. I made up a pattern for the adaptor plate to fit my guard and sent it off to the foundry, and this is the end result. I have never liked those hideous side plates that most Harley's use for the backrest, and always liked the Duece backrest mounting and the mini backrest off the V-Rods, so I thought I would combine the 2 and this is what I ended up with.(of course I painted in wrinkle black like everything else! is there any other color?!(LOL))

Here is a link to the backrest I used:

I do still have the pattern, but I wasnt really wanting to produce them commercially, because then it wouldnt be different to everyone elses!(LOL) I am just gonna keep it so I can get another one cast up if I need to later on for some reason. I thought that was the true essence of customising i.e. making 1-off parts that are different to everyone elses. Unlike the modern trend of thinking a custom either comes out of the factory, or, can be simply created with off-the-shelf bolt on parts which are exactly the same as anyone else going to the same store can get if they want, I like to make bits myself, and have quite a lot of 1-off home made parts on my bike and thats the way I want it to stay.
