Hi there all, I was just  wondering from people out there with previous experience that when you apply for your bike insurance [policy one of the standard questions is " have you altered the bike in any way from stock or add after market accessories", do you answer with yes or no because in gthe event of something happening maybe they wont cover... I intend to put on after market pipes on straight away.  Any advice on this would be appreciated as am waiting on my arrival of 2012 Sporty

    Thanks, bathory

I wouldnt try that with most insurance companies.. If they ask the question of 'modified or non standard parts', you say no and try to make a claim.. You've just given them a loop hole to get out of paying out..

My advice would be to ask your insurance company directly, not ask some guys on the Internet.
Some polices won't care, some definitely will, some companies will even see custom paint as a higher theft risk, don't take ANY chances with your insurance.. ASK, some companies will see any 'performance' upgrades (ac, pipes etc) as an instant 'will not insure' reason.

I've had a big run in with a certain large company who tried every loop hole in the book to get out of paying me out on a theft, luckily I'd documented EVERYTHING (dates, who I spoke to etc..).

Insuremyride ask if you have mods and happily cover the additional costs, however the $$$ jump up accordingly

I'm insured with Wester QBE and I declared my Vance & Hines Ovals on the 2003 FLHTCUI with no problems.

Halcyona has his 2011 Fatboy and I have my 2011 1200 Sportster insured through Harley-Davidson (Swann) insurance. Both bikes have Vance and Hines pipes and are listed on the policy as modifications with no problems.

Shannons also cover all modifications listed on the policy.

When my Buell slipped over all the mods were replaced with no issue.
