minister for finance (wife) has upgraded my budget from sporty to say dyna or softail, help.......which do u reckon?
cheers all. wilso
Wilso,
get to your dealer and take them all for a ride mate....
Then decide
Wilso mate, the best way is to throw a leg over both & ride em & see what suits you, every man / women & their collective dogs will have an opinion, but when it bolis down it's your money so spend it on what you desire
BTW my vote is for a Dyna
Hi,
My two bobs worth,
Had a soft tail, 04 fatty, they look great and if only going for shortish rides, beautiful!
But if you intend to go on long rides, after 500 k's in a day, your tail aint soft anymore!
Now the Road King, I can ride that forever and not get sore!
I guess it's horses for courses....iron horses that is
mate don't listen to all this other crap....
Crasher has a softail.... and rides like there was never a tomorrow... short/long rides does'nt give a shit
Bobtail has a softail.... and whilst he does not ride the socks off it, he is no slouch.. short/long rides dont give a shit
Beeza and Alchemist both have softies and are no slouches....
Dazza/Andij/Kane etc etc... have a variety of dynas and ride the arse off them... short/long rides dont give a shit
Number of Dazza's mates (yes he has some - besides Andij) ride sporties and many people are not able to keep up
Snagger has a V-Rod.... don't try and keep up
more options to customise a softail
I have a Dyna (Street Bob).... great around the streets and on the open road.... a great all round bike
So.... now this is where you listen to others.... ride as many models as you can and then make a judgement based on your likes and your budget. I say budget because you will want to make it your own, oh and get rid of the sewing machine sound
This is my standard answer to this question...ride em all but...
Consider if you prefer skinny 21" front 19" front...fat front
Black or Silver Motor with our without chrome
Mids or Forward controls however forwards can be put on a Dyna
Bobbed tail or standard
Do not consider the bars or the seat on any possible bike. You can (and most do) change either or both of these to suit you. The parts book they give you with a new bike will bring your wallet to tears.
This will get you down to a choice or two. If one is a Dyna and the other a Softail try em both. I have owned both and they both had pros and cons but weren't worlds apart anyway.
Enjoy making the decision!
cheers Surly
Wilso, I sold a Fatboy 12 weeks ago and now ride a Dyna, If your into pottering about slowly, take the Softail. If you like to ride a fair bit faster and want a resemblance of handling, then go for a Dyna. The FXDC, comes in cheaper than a Softail standard, and there is a lot of bike & bling for your money.
Best way is to ride them both, your heart will tell your head which way to go. Riders on this forum are only going to back there particular loyalty, so try for yourself & your lady.
Good luck with your decision.
Well that just makes me feel all fuzzy and warm inside mate, and you are also right Wayne when it comes to buying a Harley, just buy the one that you like the look of and makes you feel good because that is the difference between a jap bike and a H.D. Buying a Harley is about buying something that is an extension of your personality or at least it used to be. If you have to ask what Harley should I buy ?? then maybe you should wait until you know a bit more about what you want ?? I think a lot of people buy a HOG as a fashion statement and spend more time wondering about which one to trade up to next, rather than this is the bike I've always wanted so what else is there ?? If you buy the Harley you want then you shouldn't have to ask questions like will I be able to tour on this bike or is it this or is it that ?? If you buy the one you want then you should be able to adapt to the bike and use it for everything and anything you want to use it for. Just an opinion.
I would 100% have to say Dyna SuperGlide. BUT...
The best advice was already given 2 u earlier in the peice tho' :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
Throw a leg over every one of them. Give em' each a good proper spin. Decide which you like, narrow it down to 2 and ride em' again if you like!
(For me I went in to buy a sportser, and given the luxury to ride each bike and get comfortable and give each good flogging I soon worked out what made me happy.)
