running in a brand new 1200

    Hi, could anyone please advise me what is reccommended to run in a new engine eg how many kms, what rev range etc?  Thanks, bathory

    bash it, don't be shy with it ride it like you normally would a bike and dont be scared to rev it! This is advise that was given to my by one of the big nobs at HD.

    try to forget it needs running in.....and enjoy it.

    Yep, don't labour it, and vary the revs a lot. Don't sit at a constant speed and constant engine revs for long periods. About 1,600 kms should see it run in fine. Change to oil and filter at that time, and then go for it. TC

    like you stole it mate, no motor likes to be lugged at anytime not just on run in, so keep it up on cam and singin!

    you should do a few heat cycles to start off very start but your engine would have been started enough for you not to worry bout that.

    I have to say I was going easy on mine until i read all these posts and did some checking.

    I loved my bike before, but now i LOVE it.
