I think it's worth a mention, an awesome ride by Cadel Evans to take the lead into the final stage of the tour last night. Inspired by his late mentor Aldo Sassi(died of brain tumor last Dec), Cadel pushed hard in the time trial to claw back the Schleck brothers and take over the yellow gersey. A historic moment for the Aussie as only four riders have ever comeback from behind in the time trial to take the lead in the tour. Cadel crossed the line one minute 34 secs in front of Andy Schleck (previous leader). The final stage onto Paris tommorrow will be a historic moment in Australian sport. Good one Cadel, and good luck tommorow.
Aussie, aussie, aussie, oi, oi, oi. Go Cadel!!
I have been watching this since the start and scenery certainly is spectacular...
I also admire the guys riding motorcycles for TV coverage, they go through all the twisties and beside shear cliff drops with a cameraman swinging on the back at 100ks plus...
Cudos to Cadel...
Bt
I'm with Jim on the 'boring' thing - cycling and horse races all appear the same to me. BUT!! I fully respect and admire the athleticism / fitness / dedication etc of these people. And to travel at those speeds wearing the thinnest material known to man!! Yeah, gutsy stuff.
In fact I might stay up tonight and watch the lad bring it home. Just like the Americas Cup - I couldn't give a rats arse about yacht racing but I recognise an historical moment when it happens. Good onya Cadel, guts effort mate!
No wonder he won all the other riders keep sliding on the sooks tears.
In saying that it is a remarkable achievment by a devoted athlete. sniffle/sniffle
Yep, we're all very proud of Cadel's overnight win in the Tour de France; it's a memorable victory and a piece of history - BUT!! Across our large brown land and at Cafe's EVERYWHERE this win will encourage that gruesome sight of all sights ........ an increase in M.A.M.I.L 's. That's Middle Aged Men In Lycra; and what is seen cannot be unseen. Oh Cadel, what havya done?!
Top stuff Cadel. 3600km on a pushie. Thats more than my ride down to the pub run each year...and I'm stuffed riding the Fatty!
Born and raised in Katherine NT. World mountain bike champion also. Once he achieved this he set his sights on winning the Tour.
As one dude put it this morning "it's like a 10 year old greek boy in Greece saying, one day I'll win a Brownlow medal playing AFL"
Good things come from the top end! Go you good thing!
