I'm thinking of changing the air cleaner. Even though I have the Screaming Eagle breather I don't like the look of it.
I leaning towards a wrinkle black figure machine unit. Black and basic. They have the option for a 4" or 5" filter.
Any advice/experience on what is best? Im assuming the 5" gets more air but do you need it? I am thinking of working the engine after the warranty experes though....
Thanks
Rik
Just the breather I think (standard cover). I don't like the look of the heavy breather. Looking for something low profile.
I saw that one but thinking of going for a round one
I'm in the same boat & lookin at this one.
New Screamin Eagle stage 1 round air cleaner for sportster. Part 29000009. Here's a link for more info http://www.adventureharley.com/harley-davidson-screamin-eagle-sportster-stage-i-air-cleaner-kit-gloss-black-29000009
$176 quoted from both HD shops here in Perth. $20 less on ebay.
Apparently any of the twin cam style covers or trims will fit. All the HD ones seem to be in chrome but there's this wrinkle black one on ebay $47 delivered http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/HARLEY-STAGE-1-AIR-CLEANER-COVER-S-Series-BLACKOUT-/260807789302?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&hash=item3cb95b0af6 They also do custom engraving on their covers.
There's also another ebay seller who does custom covers which fit this air cleaner. Search under "stage 1 air cleaner cover" or try this link http://shop.ebay.com.au/whoperman/m.html?_trksid=p4340.l2562
Looks like Outerwears Racing may do a rain sock that fits this air filter too. If it's the same size as HD filter part 29244-08 then this is the one http://www.outerwearsracing.com/proddetail.asp?prod=66890 USD$16.95
I ended up going for the one from Figure Engineering. Heaps of cover plates to choose from but I wanted it to look simple so it's ribbed, wrinkle black on wrinkle black. Only part I don't like is the red from the k&n filter
While I was at it I removed the belt guards. Now the rear looks too high so I'll have to lower it an inch or so...
Looks great.
As for the red colour on the K&N filter it is the colour of oil which they spray on the filter to trap the dust and dirt. If you clean the aircleaner you will find that it is a sort of white colour without the oil on it. The Filter will go black eventually.
But I wouldn't run it without the oil as it will tend to let a heap of dust into your engine.
Looks great without the belt guards, it would be nice to see how long before rocks fall on the belt then go through the pulleys making the belt snap.
Even though it looks great it may be an expensive exersice.
