To rego my 69 FLH, could I do it minus blinkers, mirrors, horn, front guard, etc etc coz its pre 1970 or 71, or 72 whatever? Compliancing laws I think it's called? I'd like to rego her with the most minimal bits needed. If that makes sense. Plus there's no such thing in Qld anymore as single seat rego. My softy is regoed as a single seater which I dun yrs ago, but not allowed anymore! A FXCW ,solo seat stock, is the same rego $'s as an FXCW/C which is a dual seat. That really sucks. Any help appreciated.
I thought it used to be pre 79=no blinkers....but could be wrong...
Why don`t you ask them, it would save you a whole lot of grief getting the facts instead of the BS. I would bet you need a horn, front and rear guard, head and tail light and brake light, front and rear brake, engine number, 69 never had a frame number, chain guard and all the common sense items, if it looks clean and roadworthy you should be ok, if it looks like shit your only wasting your time.
I registered my 70 FLH in Vic with no blinkers, one mirror r/h side, one brake light switch rear brake, stock exhaust, thats pretty much the difference in Vic between new and old bikes,
Thanks fellas, I'll give the motor reg another go. Maybe the cranky shit I spoke to there before, is retired, or dead, either way good. I bought the 69 in LA through Carls Speed Shop in 1986. It still had yank rego on it and I rode it all round NSW with a current yank plate and rego. Never got pulled up once! Then the rego ran out and I later shifted to Qld in '89. Swapped plates with my 84 Softail until the cops (which knew me) said "Hey Philthy, why don't ya put wingnuts on yer number plates?" the Detective said. Hmmmm... long story short, they were gunna book me if they saw the softy number plate and rego label on the 69. I got a stern warning. From a detective to!!! What a classic though, wingnuts. I'm the second owner of her and she is still all original everything. The motor has never been split. She has a centre stand, original tool kit, owners manual, receipt of purchase when bought new, pink slip (rego papers), chainguard, and other shit ... Yeah,My Dresser. Luv the 'ol girl. Needs a polish and a battery at present, otherwise going good.. Still got the Tillotson carb to, which I got from HD Development a few yrs ago. When I work out this photo bukt shit I'll do a nice story and pics about her. RT took and posted pics recently that were attached to the '' Bike Show in Mackay" photo's if ya wanna perve at her.
Thanks Houli, fucknose why I couldn't find it. I'll print it out and frame It!!!
Thats a beaut 69 you have, is the sportster buddy seat mounted on the pogo or solid, it looks like it sits lower than the original buddy, need more pics of that classic and maybe Hogbagger will stick up some pics of his 62.
Good luck with getting the knucklehead, hope to see some pics of that one on the road unrestored.
This is the stock buddy seat fitted to a 70FLH the same seat was offered on 69 models, you can see the pogo and the helper springs, a lot of people fitted the sporster buddy seat as it was a thinner profile and you never sat half way up the tank, as nice and pretty as this is i prefer an original ridden bike with all its fading and oil stained parts.
