I have just ordered a windsplitter screen. harley claim that it cuts down on wind and you can actually hear the bikes sterio a lot better, i will let you know when it is fitted how good they are. anyone else got one fitted would be interested to hear how yours goes .
thanks Aussie Ant
Hey buddy, I'm 5"10 in the old money and I have one of these fitted. It helps a bit but there is still a lot of buffeting at 100kph or faster . It makes no difference to speaker clarity and I have the BOOM audio speakers fitted.
If it is any help to you, I have the Klock Werks version that inspired HD to release theirs... And no, I do not think it helps the stereo, mind you I have plenty of stereo grunt anyways.. Being 6'1" my face pokes over the top a bit anyway to catch the breeze. I don't hunker down behind it except in the extremes of rain. There is something MORE important than looks and stereo.. Maybe it is just me, Old School, at some point Function is more important than style, and I am there now...
If you are deliberating the concept, I DO think it cuts down on the wind buffeting. Like when you go through a gap in the hills and there is a strong cross wind, it does seem to cut that buffet down by maybe a third. I am going to order the HD one on my new bike coming next month, as I have seen the HD one on another Mates Hog and it somehow looks a little better than the Klock Werks one. Maybe it is just me, but I am going OEM with HD instead of Klock Werks, and it is slightly different shape and to me maybe looks better as well.
HogBagger,
I am with you, I have 100 Watts per side and an 8 Gig Ipod built in... All the good stuff from the Sixties all the way up. Between that and V&H PowerDuals and 10 disk SuperTrapp style mufflers opened up to 50mm internal and only 4 disc left in each? There ain't no Blind Spots around me. I have them move over with the noise I make... heh he... On the other hand, sometimes it is just nice to listen to the big V-Twin...
Ride Free, ride safe, and looking at some of the ones in those cages, you should have to have a License to breed.. heh he
BrookesHarley,
See if this is a help. On my Street Glide, I have the Klock Werks windscreen. On my new CVO Ultra, I have the new HD one. The HD one seems to be of a slightly higher quality, but also there appears to be a slight shape difference. It seems, and now I cannot say, but it seems the HD one has a bit more turnout at the top, but also it is a bit wider in the profile. It make the bike feel like it tracks straighter in wind buffeting and cross winds.
I chose the HD one for the Brand loyalty and the Bar and Shield logo but also for rain protection. Iit seems that I can get more water protection in the rain as it is a little wider with less water on my leather at the shoulders. I hope this is a help. The Street Glide Klock Werks one, has the windscreen trim LEDS light up. The HD one is the unlit one. It seems abit flatter and wider at the top, on my Ultra maybe even a little more glove dry protection in the rain as well. It is up to you the Owner to decide, I hope me showing both helps you choose the right one for you.
First the Klock Werks one:
Then here is the new HD one...
Hey there Beagle,
Look, I think the feel of the HD one is better, maybe, but that is personal... I can't give you a guess on which is actually better until I ride this new one out and get caught in hard rain. It looks like it is a tad flatter on width and a bit more turnout, maybe even will deflect a little more water off my gloves... To be fair, it would be useless bulldust to give you any report, until I get royally pissed down on in the rain... Then I can give you a rating that matters.. heh he
I went with a Freedom Screens 8 inch light tint - I'm 5'10 & it works great at any speed - can't recommend enough.
Cowboy - you picked up your CVO Ultra yet? see you have the SG for sale - a great buy for someone with the splash.
Hello Glenpick,
Yes, picked it up, the pictures above testing the windscreen are of the new CVO Blue Ultra... 1600 kms in the past three days... We did my break in run, for my Birthday, after a few hundred kms around the area here to get the initial run in on the engine we headed out to go Interstate on Friday mid-day. Bikers For Christ, seven of us Brothers, we went down to help a family doing it bit tough on a rural property down south, to lend a hand. On the way down, 650 kms run, we stopped half way for a motel and a bit of a party... This is normal for what I would do on a Street Glide with big wheels, low profile tyres, skinny seat, and spring suspension.. Sort of like the rest of the Brothers on Choppers and Customs, after a few hundred kms, everyone was happy to stop for a while..
Then on the way back with the Blue CVO Ultra it was a different story. A couple of Brothers had to tough it out on Sunday and go long haul to get back to work, so I decided to stretch my legs and escort them north back home.. On the way back, my Birthday was Sunday, instead of stopping half way, the 650 km got eaten up and we all went non-stop home, only I did it in comfort for an Old School Bloke: WHAT A DIFFERENCE... !! Ended up with 5 Brothers on the run back 650 kms a couple did it pretty tough. Three stopped two hundred kms south Brisbane where they lived, and I kept on going. 650 kms in comfort... My first Service is Booked in for Thursday at 8:30... Big Blue is a keeper for sure... I love the Street Glide, but it is a different animal for a younger man on long runs, more of a city machine on the streets like it says. I did put it on BikeSales.com in two places, and you are right it is a good buy with rarity and low kms, and about $7000 in extras on it. Nothing wrong with it, but while I was thinking of being greedy and keeping both, to be sure I will be riding "Big Blue" most of the time.. Air suspension, fatter tyres, heated seat and grips, back rest, it eats the long range stuff up in style. At some point in Life, Function is more important than looks or style.. I am there, and the Blue CVO is the smoothest and most comfortable Harley I have ever ridden in 40 years, and still the power that is hard to keep up with in the 110 c.i. SE engine..
Regards, Cowboy.
Good for you Cowboy - I'm leaving August 18 to ride up to the Sunshine Coast - need a road trip & can't think of a better place to go this time of year. I'm riding - wife is flying. Fitted my LED headlight & backrest , highway pegs for the trip so we'll see how she stands up in the comfort stakes.
Sure like your new wheels though.
Cheers
Glen.
Glenpick,
That is my home, Sunshine Coast, send me a PM for contact details if you want to hook up.... I still have the Old School Bar and Shield colours CVO Street Glide, and love it for its looks and colour and hot rod feel... Don't get me wrong, it still might be the best looking bike HD had made and the 110 is awesome... I just needed the top box, for my Cowboy hat to keep out of the sun when stopped and for the travel options it solves as well. I also wanted the added luxury bits like the automatic locking panniers and top box, because I have 60 Employees and have to carry a laptop and stuff everywhere and I am sick of fumbling with the tubular lock key in the dark.... I thought about getting the docking station and top box, but instead elected to go the full monte with the CVO FLHCUSE6. That 2011.5 release, Blue Ultra is the first on the road in Australia..
But don't get me wrong... The O/B CVO Street Glide with the 110 is an Awesome bike... Yours and mine, probably the top Harley in power and colour and design ever done. I added CVO Passing Lights not in this picture, LED tail light, LED windscreen trim, V&H Power Duals, SE Super Trap style mufflers, Wind splitter windscreen, and more, it is an awesome bike. I am leaning on 60, and just don't think I will be riding it when I have the same and more in the Ultra CVO. If anyone is interested it is on Bikesales.com.au.
BrookesHarley: If it is any help to you, this in the picture is the 7.5 inch Klock Werks windscreen from the front of a Tourer. I actually swapped it out on my CVO Ultra for this 1600 km run south, as I do like it. I may need to get a taller HD one for the Ultra, as this Street Glide is lowered in the rear so it makes the screen taller. You may need to actually sit on one, with your particular type of HD to see how it fits you for height...
