If you raise the VE value...does it make it richer or leaner?

Or should I say, does a higher value mean a richer or leaner mixture....I can't seem to find an answer and can't wrap my head around it yet so I thought I'd check overseas. lol

VE = Volumetric Efficiency which is measured as a percentage of air. The higher the percentage of air flowing will mean a higher percentage of fuel.

Thanks for the information. This helps.

If you raise the VE value, you are telling the ecu the motor is more efficient than it really is. You need to get the VE's right with the Vtune so you are getting the most efficient use of your fuel. No point in putting more air and fuel into the motor when it cant pump it through.

I would just increase the AFR in those cells or areas in the AFR table. After dynotuning or Vtuning you should have the correct VE for that cell to which you can set the appropriate AFR for your requirements.

The only reason I was asking was because I'm fighting a ping issue. I was playing around trying to pull timing out and not having much success. I added a fuel in the AFR table and then thought about changing the VE's just slightly on the rear cylinder to get a little more fuel in just that cylinder. I've done quite a few VTune runs and the VE's are pretty close. I'm just checking my options to work the ping issue I'm seeing.

If they have the TTS I expect it will be able to tune more than one bike. The only issue is that you won't know what they have done to the bike because they won't give you the files that were created when Dyno tuning the bike. That is if they use the TTS

I plan to get mine dynoed too, when I save the coin.

Mine showed up lean in a couple of spots at WOT when I ran it up at a dyno shootout (managed to get the tech to give me torque and AFRs  as well).

Just want to know that it is running right at all revs/throttle pos. Then I can ride it knowing that all is good!

Appreciate that some like to spend a lot of time doing it all themselves, but I'm afraid time and patience has got the better of me. I did enjoy learning as much as I did (not that much I'm afraid!) through vtuning, but would prefer to leave the final tune to a pro. He has said that the tune seemed pretty good, just a little lean in places. Better to sort that out before the warmer weather arrives!

I will have him modify my tune using my TTS interface and laptop (this tech does not normally use TTS) and create a new map for my bike.

With my slightly lean tune the bike pulled 96HP and 110Tq. ........Pretty happy with the Torque, Hoping to gain a little more HP at the top end.

I will post up before and after dyno sheets after I get it done for comparison.

    Burto.

i just started buying new tools if people think HD ripe them off try buying snap on lol
if there was a cheap dyno that would be a cool thing to play with

It is a lot easier to Vtune on a dyno. I put mine on a dyno in closed loop and had the VE's except for WOT set in three twenty minuite runs. You can focus on the areas you need to hit on. You need one with a drum that can apply a load though. The dyno owner didnt believe it at first. Still need to run in open loop with a sniffer for the WOT.

Just an update....I could not get rid of the pinging. I thought maybe I got a bad tank of fuel and plugged the fuel filter so I pulled it. The 'O' ring that seals the filter canister was kinked and wasn't sealing. You could plug one spigot and blow in the other...it would blow right past the canister 'O' ring. The filter was a little dirty but not bad. Replaced both. Went back and started the VTunes over and haven't had any ping yet. The bike runs the best it ever has. The VE tables dropped quite a bit. I suspect it's similar to having a leaking fuel line and the VTune program would try to compensate, but that's just a guess. Just a heads up if anyone is having a similar ping problem that's seems like it wont 't go away with normal fuel and timing adjustments.

For the home novice like most of us snap on are a waste of money. I buy tools to suit the job. Harleys are pretty simple animals in the end there are only a couple of specialist tools that you need 27Torx is a big one. Why they used that I don't know. Other than that unless you are pulling a motor apart then you can get away with a basic tool kit. And if you need something special hell this place is a godsend.
