Going to town on a 1200cc motor

    Hey,

I may be asking a question on a thread that exists, if so please let me know.

I am thinking of going to town on the motor of my 2011 48. Seeing how much power and that I could get out of it. Has anyone had any experience at this sort of thing? How much did the bill run into? I am expecting a few thousand dollars.

How did the rest of the drive train and bike handle it? Did it cause other problems elsewhere?

    Thanks in advance.

Check out these guys www.nrhsperformance.com they're doing some pretty impressive stuff with the Sportster engines.

I upgraded my 883 using their 1250 big bore kit and went with a set of Andrews n4 cams, will be getting my head work done through them as well (when I can afford more cash). However, they have a heap of kits that will push your 1200 out to 110 + hp; cost ya a small fortune though...............

Just been shopping at NRHS, have just given the nightster a boost and installed a 1250 kit with 10.5:1 Hurricane forged pistons, Stage 3 Cylinder Head Kit, SE575 Cams, SE fuel injectors, Hurricane 3" high flow filter, V&H comp. pipe coupled up to a PCV tuner. Can't tell you how it really runs yet only done 100ks since installed and a bit tight yet. Also no dyno until she's run in at around 1000ks, she's running a little rich at the moment. Hoping for around 110hp & at least 85nm torque atw.

NRHS have been more than helpful, there are some other lads on this forum who have upgraded their 883s to 1250s.

    Thanks 883n and GT,

I checked out there website, very intresting.

I would love to get some feed back from you GT about the diffrenece it makes when you can? Did you go the full stage 3? Are you planning on doing any drivetrain upgrades to cope?

Yeah, full Stg 3 NRHS porting, 2007 1200R XB Heads. I queried the driveline with Dan at NRHS he advised all should be okay pending how much you flog it. The clutch may need heavier springs and plate, ignition on the EFIs is okay and have still got the original belt and pulley system.

If it's not raining this weekend I should clock up a few K's.........

GT, did you supply the heads or just buy them direct via Dan?

Bought them direct from Dan......it would have been cheaper to ship mine over, but the bike would have been out of action during the whole process. Basically just to save hassles with shipping, besides all freight was free because I spent quite a few $$$ with them.

Free shipping, but got stung with duty and GST at customs for one box that had goods worth over a grand.

I had Dan ship the 1250 kit and cams seperately to avoid the GST and bullshit from Customs, think it cost me an extra couple of bucks in shipping, but the customs costs are insane!!

Yep, should have had Dan split it up, but may have incurred shipping costs from NRHS then.

Scouser, so far all up ~$6k with go fast goodies, engine parts fitment / rough tune, drag bars, progressive shocks, comp. pipe, exhaust wrap and other stuff (yes could have bought a BT for the bucks, but the nightster is what I wanted)

yeah a typo with hp, meant 100 hp which is probably not too unrealistic considering the gear. It's going to boil down to how well we can tune it, and so far have retained the belt drive for now.

a sydney builder got 87hp out of mine and im only at 9.4 comp ratio and n6 cams (i wanted a streetable/hwy able eng) and its an old 03 model mate he helped me spec up the eng and ported /polished my heads reshaped chamber etc etc he's def the man to speak to mate!
he did head work, i build it and tuned it under his guidance and had it dyno'd independantly oh and this is one a dual fire ign and at standard as per book timing.

I came across this thread googling for a workshop in sydney so i'd love to know where Jusso got his work done.

I'm looking  to get a similar build done to my bike, as well as a new rear fender fabricated in the sydney metro area (North preferred), so if anyone has any recommendations feel free to pm me.

Sorry about the bump and hijack.

    peace.
