Andrews 26G with S&S gears. A mild cam which will give you a lot more torque. A bit noisy though, but you do get used to it. Also, if you upgrade to 95ci, you can still use the same cam. There are equivalent cams around which are just as good. I like gears because once it's done, that's it. No need to worry about tensioners.

Prefer to Stick with SE parts, and the belt, over gears, ill look into the gear option though, i guess its an avenue i can take. meduim cam is all i need, gott any suggestions on size?

SE-211 Cam, is what i've been recomnded, adjustable pushrods, same gear, etc, bearing change over while i'm there aswell,

anyone else done this mod?

I've got an '01 roadking with woods tw6 gear drive cams and s&s e carb and dyna s ignition. Huge difference.

Do not stick 211's in an 88, it will ride like a dogs dinner (I done this so I do know)
If you want to go with 211's go 95" HC pistons, 0.030 HG as a minimum to make it run nice. As a premium a descent set of heads will complement this.
Those 211's thrive on compression
