Anybody out there done any mods to their forks? I spent about 4 hrs satdy fitting raceteck springs & gold valve emulators into the Fatbob.Wouldn't ya farkin guess ,rained all day sundaydid
manage a 10 mins ride saturday ,seemed to make a big difference.Few tips on fork removal,install- leave the fork tightened in the lower yoke [triple tree] and crack the top nut before removeing -
Crack the bottom 12mm allen head bolt that holds the damper rod while the spring weight is still on it [ Make sure you have a 12mm allen key] A piece of 50mm high pressure PVC pipe
makes a perfect tool for seating the oil seals- Type E HD fork oil = 10 weight -use a brass drift to remove the chrome cover that goes over the seals. Hope this may interest someone cheers.
I fitted Racetech springs and gold valve emulators to my RoadKing, but I also lowered the front about 3/4" and modified the spacers in a lathe to the appropriate length. Also didn't use any of the muck that Harley sells as oil, used synthetic fork oil,and changed the amount in the legs. Now rides like it should have from the factory, and much better than bike fitted with progressive fork springs, which in a heavy bike give a mushy feel to the front end.
