Ok, does anybody have any ideas on the best way to put petrol in my softail without it getting on the tank? No matter how bloody hard i try or slow i go, some always dribbles on the tank and it shits me to tears

Hold the nozzle/spout upside down until it's over the opening then turn it carefully so any excess runs into tank.

Not sure if this is a piss take though so covering my bases.

    Agree with BURTO.

    Practice & Patience.

PS:  I cup my free hand under the nozzle afore I move it back over the tank to the bowser.

Drink the petrol left in the nozzle, then tip it into the tank.

When the girl and I go riding we always fill the Sporty and Fatboy up at the same time, so after many tanks I have sort of got the knack for filling the Harley with fuel.

But I must say the fuel filling system on the Harley Sporty and Fatboy would have to worst engineered filling system I have ever had on a bike. Surely Harley after all these years of evolution could have come up with a better system, and another thing I don't like about it is that the cap unscrews and you have to put it somewhere. Sure its a classic look but not a fuctional system.

Hey robo61 I find the windscreen paper from the thingy-bob dispenser a bit irritable under the nozzle once you tuck it away--cheers Grim

yeah , what a pain in the arss , don't pull the handle full on , when nearly full pull the nozzle out and top up gently , this works at least one in ten times . .

In some ways it is a piss take....but I have had the bike covered in fuel from a blow back once. Never had that problem on any of my other bikes. The fatBob is a pain to fill, very slow job.

I am very concerned about this!

Why are big tough bikers having problems getting fuel in the tank and not over the bike?

just give it a little shake before you withdraw and theres no dibbles, much like a piss or root!

What use to catch me out was somebody  before me would hear's first click and returns the pump leaving the line full.

you pull up be as carefull as you like going for the hole in your tank and it spews out every where.

Now when i grab the pump i empty it on the floor before it goes any where near my tank.sweet as!
