Passing Lamps wired to high beam

    2010 FLSTF

I had passing lamps fitted to my Fatboy when I bought it.

They were wired to come on with Lo Beam.

I have now upgraded from 35watts to 55watts

    I have 2 Questions:

1/     I want to change the passing lamps to come on with Hi Beam now.

How do I do it? Is there a simple way to change over, ( that is, remove the Lo Beam feed and connect to the Hi  Beam feed.) Where do I find this feed?

    Anyone got photos? Diagrams??

2nd Question:    Now that I  am using 55 watts per light, should I have a relay? (not sure if there was one fitted). Would a relay be of any benefit)

Has anyone ever done this to their bike?

Any suggestions or help would be appreciated

    Thanks

There was a post about changing the config wiring to come on on High beam. As far as the relay goes. I don't think you will need one. This was answered in your previous post on this.

By law you've gotta have driving lights switched, and only able to come on with high beam,,,,

So your best option is to re-wire them through a reley that is switched from the high beam circuit.

    Basic reley wiring diagram.

Reckon with the 35 watt globes they get away with it by calling them "passing lights", or deem them as daylight running lights ???

Just splice your low beam feed into the High Beam feed in the switch block...

I cant remember if you splice the YELLOW into the BLUE...?

or BLUE into the YELLOW...   this way you have Passing lights working on BOTH Hi & low... & retain the on off switch..

Just where is all this wiring on the bike. Where would the dealer have spiced into the Lo-beam circuit.......under the tank, under the seat.?????????

If it is under the tank, how do you remove the tank?

I wouldn't mind adding a relay as some people have suggested, but where would be the best place to fit it. I thought  the dealer would have spliced into the Lo-beam circuit in the headlight bucket, but nothing there.

What are the colour codes for the headlights?

I want to wire into the high-beam circuit only. I got in the shit one night when I was driving my car with the fog lights on. Police pulled me up, lucky he was in a good mood as he would have booked me. Apparently it is illegal to drive in Qld with fog lights on unless it is foggy.

    Cheers
