Bugger me,
I went to Victoria and purchased a second hand Road King trike that was registered in Victoria.
I road it back home to Sydney ... great ride 1600klm approx.
When I got it home I looked into registering it in NSW...This is when the shit hit the Fan.
Went to Get a blue slip as it was not registered in my name as you cannot transfer interstate registration to a NSW resident.
The Trike had a Enginees report made out in Vic.
It turns out that I could not use that engineers report, as Trikes in Vic. are concidered ICV ( indivitually Constructed Vehicles) but in NSW they are concidered MPV ( Modified Production Vehicles.
So off I go to get a New Engineers report.
The Trike fails to meet some ADRs ( Australian Design Rules).
I need to Add Yellow Reflectors to the side,
red reflectors to the rear,
a White reflector to the centre of the front.
I needed to change my Mirrors (they were too small )
Also needed to change the reversing light to meet the ADR for that as well.
And last but not lease I needed to shed 10Kg from the Tare weight of the Trike.
It amazes me that I needed to do all this for NSW but it was OK in Vic.
Well I'm in the process of doing all of the above.. ( will revert back once Registered)
I can at this stage only remove 5.5kg of weight, still looking on ligheting the load some more, but cannot remove things like tour box or anything else that was standard with the bike before it was converted.
We keep you all aprised of how I go.
The Laws in each State are much the same, If the Bike is Roadworthy and has been Engineered in another state and Regoed as a Trike there shouldn't be a drama, If the Mirrors are to Small and someone has removed the Reflectors from the Front, The Trike is Un Roadworthy. It has nothing to do with diffrent Regs , Mirrors and Reflectors are a must here too by the Law in Victoria. Maybe you should of did some home work before buying it. If you get on to Frank7214, He sould be able to get you Bike approved
As Walka stated, if you need a hand send me a PM. What you said about the engineers report is not a 100% correct. You can have an engineers report from a different state as long as the enginneer is a reconised NSW RTA signatory which are advertised on the website, If the engineer is not, which might be the case with you, follow the steps the engineer requires to be completed and lower the weight to the required specs. Again all advertised on the DOT website. Good luck, sometimes a bit of homework prior to purchasing something out of the ordinary reduces heartache.

Thanks for the offer of help but I will work it out with the engineer that I am using now.
Yes in hind site a little more homework prior to purchase would have been wise, but somtimes we go on a gut feeling and buy on instinct.
Stick with it Doc. Looks like a great trike. It'll all be worth it when crap settles. pete.
Well guys and gals
I finally got the engineers report in NSW.
What a drama,
change the mirrors to stock
removed the Top box to get it weighed came down from 460Kg to 440Kg
Changed the Reversing light to an ADR approved one.
Added the reflectors 2 side orange, 2 rear red and the stupid front white.
paid the $1200 for the report.
Now that I have the report I went and got thew NSW Blue slip another $75.00
This week it will finally be registered, look out for me on the road, can't miss me.
Changes following Rego... You bet!
Yah whooooooooooooooooooooooo
Well all the BS is over and the Trike is registed in NSW.
I use this as my daily ride so keep an eye out for me and say Hi.
Thanks for all the words of encouragment !
I know this is an old tread but was wondering if somone may be able to help me out.
Can anyone tell me what hoops have to be jumped through with the R.M.S To register a trike, Does it have to have a hand brake fitted, noise test etc,.
Yes trikes require a handbrake, if the trike you are concidering is from interstate, please read the posts above.
Make sure there is an engineers report from an engineer that is a signatory in NSW and half your battle is over, then all you will need is a blue slip in NSW and away you go. good luck!
