    Hey all,

I pick up my iron on saturday and have a set of v&h short shots to go on.......after its registered.

I don't have a torque wrench so I am thinking of getting an exhaust shop to fit.

I can't think of any good reason apart from warranty type issues, but would there be any difference getting a reliable local exhaust shop to fit it rather then heading out to the HD store ??

    Cheers all,

    kookie

Yeah maybe a bit of coin spent on a good socket set is the best option. In the absence of a torque wrench would i just tighten as hard as possible? As bike is new gaskets shouldn't need replacing right ?

ive just brought a new exhaust for mine too. im changing it myself. ordered a torque wrench just because i dont have one (and a good investment for later). the gaskets are the cheapest part, replace them regardless, doing a job twice over $15.00 isnt worth it. the instructions with the v&h kit look good and most of all dont rush yourself to get it done (thats when fuckups happen).

+ 1, I am useless when it comes to mechanical work, however have managed to work out how to change heaps of different things on the iron. Get in there, have a go, its well worth the effort!! Besides, there isn't too much you can really fuck up playing with the exhaust!!

I'm in the ACT so it will be a cold intro to riding the Iron !!

Picking it up from Griffith NSW on saturday....last one i could find.

Streetbob, your right it is bloody satisfying starting up your ride after installing a mod yourself....I've installed a few things on my car like shortshifter kits, intercooler kits, air intakes etc....so no completely hopeless but really satisfying taking it for its first spin after.

I'm bloody impatient and now am looking at some kinda shock/suspension to lower the rear end. Hate the rise above the rear wheel !!

Seen the burly slammer kit...looks alright and well priced...any tips would be good !! I've read a few posts talking about the 883L shock but imagine they would be few and far between trying to find 2nd hand one.

Just helped a mate put short shots on his 1997 rigid and we couldn't use the bracket at all due to the rear master being in the way!

That bracket is seriously over engineered! it must weigh 5kgs I wouldn't stress about having to grind a little bit off it.

hey Bever,  not sure on the brand of them..nothing marked that makes any sense.  air adjustable (had to buy a low volume high pressure pump).  they seem to work ok.  Clean clean clean.  need some fork sliders for it as the ones on the bike are pitted,  but it goes ok.  sorry for hijacking the thread

Picked up the bike on the weekend and did all the stuffing around this morning getting rego transferred........hate the RTA..anyways

After getting it all done and riding it home man I am happy with the Iron, great little bike ! Was amazing how small it looked vs all the other bigharley's in the shop.

They actually had two Irons available which was crazy seeing as I couldn't find any in Sydney or the Gong.

Being completely honest I haven't ridden in ages and previously was all farm stuff but geez its an easy bike to ride and very forgiving !!

Went and bought a nice sidchrome socket set so I can do the exhaust myself, flipped the mirrors this morning. Looks better and heaps more functional !
