Get some good gear, and get out there ! ( the rain might help your balls grow ! )
You'd have something to complain about if you lived further south.

i got my bike last saturday, i have riden it every day so far, even in the rain, but given what melbournes weather is going to be over the next few days looks like it'll be sitting in the shed :( , overall i'll ride it every chance i get, went to the fish and chip shop on the bike the other night! i can't say i have felt the cold as my rst jacket blocks it all!

I use a visor on my open face, and many layers and layers!! I wear thermals top and bottom, and about three long sleeve t shirts and my leather jacket with my neck warmer and a scarf rolled around a couple of times. (dont forget last months edition of Cycle Torque tucked into the front of my jacket). Works a treat!! Did 460 k's yesterday, did'nt feel cold at all when I left home and it was 4 degrees.

Samcro, look at it this way. You will never be the complete rider unless you experience all types of weather. Like many, I ride all year round, and you soon learn the variances with wet (& cold) weather riding. The first thing to get over is Image versus Dry & Warm Comfort. A decent all weather jacket & pants, with a waterproof full face helmet with a panel fitted in visor to stop fogging...and away you go. You will keep dry & warm in any weather. The most important part to riding in the cold is get the BEST winter gloves you can. Me, after worrying about harley image, finally fitted a pair of heated grips (Oxfords $140.00)....the best thing since sliced bread. I enjoy riding the HD in the cold (& wet) no problems..plus, the bike goes really well in cool weather....Try it, you just might like it.

I just clocked up 1100kms over the weekend and I think I prefer my balls frozen to sweaty any day of the week. If you get some winter gear and have a tea spoon of cement, you'll be right. It was around 3 or 4 degrees when I set out and i'll admit, even with my winter gloves, my fingers felt like I was going to get frostbite, but everytime I pulled up for a piss I just held hands behind the exhaust for a minute and it was all good. Like the others have said just get some thermals and layer up.

Just went and got some thermals myself. Kathmandu have a buy one get one free at the moment ($40 for 2) and lowes have $14 ones too. currently looking around for gloves though. it can get to zero out my way, and mornings can be quite cold, i'm pretty much covered cept for the hands. any other suggestions from people for some winter gloves? i've done a search and only come up with one or two suggestions really...

Speaking of having a tespoon of cement, I had a teaspoon of Metamucil fibre drink last night. This morning, I had the best shit in days.

Winter gloves are the go - fleece or gortex lined. I've got three sets of AlpineStars gloves that I wear depending on how hot (or not) the day is going to be. The waterproof, winter gloves are lined and have a velco locking strap that goes across the wrist section to keep the water out. And get some good boots while you're at it!

Eventually water will come through the stitching on most leather boots, especially if you've got forward controls and your feet are closer to the front wheel; after a few hours you'll be tipping it out.

I feel the cold through my hands and feet especially more once they get wet. Get a good set of gortex lined boots if you're likely to be riding in the cold and rain at lot. They're not cheap, but well worth it. Like others have said you can layer the rest of your body, starting with a good set of thermals to keep the wind and rain out. If you ride with sunnies and not a full face - a spot of of dishwashing liquid rubbed dry off the lens will stop fogging from your facemask or bandana but I wouldn't ride wearing a bandana across your face in the rain ... made that mistake last year, eventually it got so wet I couldn't breath through it !

Still can't bring myself to install a shield or ride with a full face ... but you live with choices ;)
