Can I remove my Power Commander reconnect the exhaust sensers and all ok ......or is it more involved..........reason is just been for a 5 day run with a mate... same bike as mine they both go and feel the same only diff is mine uses more fuel ever time we filled up.
Thanks Beagle ...it does have a Big Sucker A/C and different pipes ......but mates bike has no extra fuel system just stock with a/c and pipes.
Between $2 and $5 per tank ...same bike 2 up and 2 paks on the back ....and we did over 2200 klms so a few tank fulls...
Your mates bike would almost certainly running lean in my opinion. They run lean standard, and after switching ac and pipes, usually run leaner.........not recommended without retuning the ECM.
Your bike with the PC would have to be closer to the mark........who knows, it may be a little rich.....better that than lean!
What is your mileage? How many MPG or L/100kms?
Burto.
Thanks Burto ...didnt write anything down to check mpg ....just comparing bikes on the trip and thought that $5 a tank was alot of differance.......Iam not unhappy at all with my ride just thought it might be running too rich.
probably need a lot more info.... because I think just by riding it is very difficult to say one bike performs very similar to another
- was your Power Commander tuned by dyno, or did you select the closest map to your setup.
- are you sure your mate has a stock system, or perhaps he has had TTS tune.
My stock setup would give me in excess of 20km/l
I then fitted V&H Short Shots/PCIII and had it dyno'd by Pattisons which gave me around 15km/l
I now have a V&H 2:1 Pro Pipe Hi Output and TTS tuned by Scotty and get around 20km/l
with the 20km/l it does seem to run hotter
Mates bike 100% stock except a/c and slip on mufflers
My bike Power Commander, pipes and a/c fitted new by dealer was not dynoed
I would go the way of a dyno too... best place for that is V.Harbour
.... but in saying this you may just find that you get the same mileage as you do now, but with better performance
Looks like a dyno tune coming up in the future ????....I will do some ringing around..........I think the closest bloke is in Narracoorte for me..............................is the bloke in Narracoorte good with Harleys.................I was told a dyno is a waste of time and $$$ unless the cams have been changed.......cheers wingy.
Wingy you can buy AFR ?? i've got one, but i'm runing a carb i put bungs in the pipe and go for a ride up a big hill to put motor under load, then plug into lap top & play it back shows AFR at different revs. if you have software & can adjust your fuel map. could shoot for about 13.1 afr thats a good allround for performance & economy, if you go real lean like 14.1 & up it's only good for riding easy. if you open them up wide for too long you can damage motor. on a run of 2,000+k's you and your mate probably going easy so he got sway with a lean afr if you road hard might be a different story. but normally if a motor is too lean you know about it . you did not mention if you and your mate are the same weight & size as a load sure does kill economy.also what tyre pressure were you runing what was he runing? try pushing a bike with a load & lower tyre pressure & another bike thats the same only with higher tyre pressure they sure roll different, all add's up & it shows up on a run over 2,000k
Whingy Iv'e got the same set up as you and I need to go back to air sensors due to the weather. I've got a power command V that has an auto tune set up that can plug into it. Check the link:www.powercommander.com/powercommander/products/powercommanderv/powercommander_v.aspx
Thanks for the replys.....to be honest I probably dont know enough about all of this... but just thought the oxygen sensors should be in the exhaust system so the" brains" could see what is going on......eg fuel quality and octain levels................wingy.
Update......well after the advice I put the sensors back in the exhaust disconnected the "elliminaters" and reconnected as per stock and didnt touch PC3.... took bike for a few short runs it wont stop fucking raining down this way......bike definatlly starting easier and quicker maybe running a little smoother... bit hard to tell on short runs... hope to get a ride in this weekend so I will let you know the outcome ...cheers wingy.
My bike seems to be running fine and the lights on pc3 are working too.........if you think I have to remove the pc3 then it looks like a bit more work for me...........just my bike is starting that much better now its like I have fitted a new battery.........wingy,
Riding my harley and thinking of naked women.............cant do better than that.........
Just a bit of an update.......removed PC and removed eliminaters..oxygen sensors back in..back to stock I thought ...but every time I started it ..it through up a code (cant remember number) so removed code start bike and up came warning again ....got pissed off put a small bit of black electrical tape over engine light and went for a good 300k run...check engine light still on........I was busy so left it for a few weeks .........My bike now was running like shit and lots of popping from exhaust on decell.............Fuck it bike was running better before I started playing around with it...............so... hooked PC up to computer now it was off ..put correct tune into it (fairly easy) ..saved original tune...PC back on elliminaters back in and changed position of PC so it is now just under my seat so I can now change the tune easy by just removing the seat and connecting up to computer....PC was originally cable tied under frame so could not get access to it ................Have now been for a few decent distance rides and its running great ...even revs a bit more now with new tune installed.........Moral of story ....if your bike is running OK then dont fuck with it........cheers wingy.
